More Sacramental Oil Required?

The joke about nubile waifs and sacramental oil concerning my auto-tinting side mirror is, unfortunately, not a once-off tale.

I commenced a refurb on the windscreen rubber trim (which needed replacement - no prob. Reasonable price from US) and removed the windscreen cowl as it was sun-faded and I planned to dye/rejuvenate it.

But the rubbery lip of the cowl was already starting to disintegrate and 4 of the the mounting clip attachments were already broken.

No prob I thought - my E46 cowl is under $300 AUD.

The Z4? BMW Australia want $750!!! That's 400 GBP or $535 USD!

The yanks only have to pay $185 USD for a LHD version.

If that isn't racism I don't know what is

Have ordered one from Europe for €159 plus €95 shipping - around $440 AUD all up. Fingers crossed I actually get it. BMW Australia has a 75% markup on that price. I can appreciate shipping costs make parts in Oz and NZ more expensive, but that kind of markup seems unjustifiable.

Shipping costs from US to Oz has become insane - ECS wanted $360 USD to ship a cowl!!! - making their cowl (which is LHD anyway) even more expensive than BMW to buy from

BTW: Part no for RHD cowl is 51717043619

That is terrible. Is it not worth checking out breakers in the UK and paying whatever the shipping charge is?

I too had a faded cowl with a deteriorating rubber lip and broken fixings. I got an almost perfect one from a breaker on fleaBay for £80, he had 8 in stock. Compared to any other £80 I’ve spent on the car, it’s made a massive difference. I didn’t realise how bad the old one looked until I replaced it.

"Being in Aus it will be transported by 4 nubile waifs to the nearest distributer, where it will be anointed with sacramental oils prior to delivery. The distributor will then adjust the price by the standard +500% and send it on its way. In the highly unlikely event of it turning up intact, you will then find that (a) it's for the previous/later version and (b) they don't make one for your model anymore."

"No luck. They emailed me saying they cannot source one from the manufacturer."

And you all thought I was joking..... :D
