Hi all,

after having the car serviced the other day I am now due to be a possible £615 out of pocket. That will take this months out goings to approx £1000

I'm just after some clarity around the price I've been quoted.

Firstly the air bag light has been traced to drivers side satellite having being damage by water previously. It was wrapped in a bag but there was no signs of water or damp now.
The indie has quoted £310 for this ( £220 for parts and £90 labour to fit and code)

On the back of this he says there may be damage to Earth lead battery wire thingy (his explanation was a little better than this) and this may also need replacing @ £195 ( £205 parts and £90 labour)

Do these prices sound right and could I use any alternative parts rather than OEM?

Also it appears that the secon horn on my car is also now u/s and requires replacement :headbang: at just shy of £100. (£75 both horns and £22.50 to fit.) has anyone used these or like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-BMW-Z4-ACP-Universal-High-Low-Sound-Snail-Horns-Genuine-Low-Cost-Replacement-/111035466340?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AZ4&hash=item19da3ac264/and/or can anyone recommend any others????

Any help/pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The airbag modules are very expensive new, if you pm me your part number I'll check if the ones I have match up although they will need to be coded once fitted (a lot cheaper than new). To fit it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, that's including a coffee break! You could fit a secondhand once yourself and ask for the indy just to code it.

The boxes are fitted next to the carpet underlay, if the underlay gets wet then the insides will quickly rust as its in a damp environment all the time, not good for electronics.

£195 for an earth lead????? again if you can take a photo or explain it better I may be able to give you the earth lead you need for a lot less.....I have my shell being picked up Friday evening and the wiring is all exposed so if your quick, I may be able to help you out.

As for the horn....these are nothing special and you should be able to buy a secondhand one for £10 and fit yourself....I cant remember if unbolted the horns on my breaker......I think I did but will need to check.

I had both horn's replaced by my indy in january , total £60 incl labour on my invoice  they are a well known Z failing

Thanks foxy-stoat will call them in the morn and ask them for the parts number then P.M you.

I have no pics available for the earth lead all I know its the one that leads from the battery.
