More power on my 2004 2.5i?

If you do anything in terms of airflow - induction / exhaust - to see anything in terms of HP gains you'll need to remap, otherwise the ECU will adjust accordingly. Returns will be minimal. I have swapped the exhaust on mine, but that's for noise and appearance... delighted with both  Induction kit going on the front to give a bit of a growl from that end.

The obvious choice for HP gains, as mentioned, is to upgrade to a 3.0. I thought about this, but I'd have been changing to a car with an unknown history, without a quad exhaust and the associated noise or any of my other upgrades. Also, on two meets now, with mostly bigger engined cars (and the Blue Flash), I've gone up to a speed I've felt comfortable with and don't feel I've been left behind. Faster, straighter roads would be a different story. The biggest difference at those meets has been the brakes in all honesty, having to brake a lot earlier into corners. That would be where I'd spend the money first. The main cost is in the disks and pads so tie in with those being renewed... or go on a meet and hammer your current ones

It's different things for different people - but I think I get a lot more enjoyment out of my more personalised 2.5 (special to me - and not quite finished yet :) ) than I would from the extra HP from a 3.0. The M is a different ball game altogether IMO, but that's a much bigger cost difference.

dyno is effectively just putting it on a rolling road and getting power/torque figures.

Remapping won't see much in the way of top end power gains, the biggest benefit would be smoothing the devivery of the power.

As I said above, I don't see a straight remap as a cost effective option of any BMW petrol lump in a Z4.

So is it only worth having a remap if you do some mods like an Aftermarket exhaust or induction kit otherwise no point ??

I wouldn't remap for either a cat-back exhaust or induction kit, they are pretty small changes to the engine and probably wouldn't make the power gains the companies claim, I'd see it as a waste of money to be honest. With a difference of 10-15BHP you'd probably feel more difference driving on a cold morning to a hot day.

It's a few hundred quid to get rolling road time and a proper remap, it isn't as cheap as it sounds which is why I say it isn't worth the hassle or cash.
