More evidence of damage done by fake M badges

I'm buying some 2.2i badges for the sides of mine. Nothing like a little bit of reverse phsycology.

Now that's an idea. 2.0 litre badges and some sort of ECO-friendly badge on the back....I like :D

I have some 2.2 badges in the garage, I'd happily post them to you.

Well a couple of weeks ago i saw a Mk4 Golf with an Audi RS badge at the back. The car was on standard wheel trims and tiny standard exhaust.

Haha, this will make you all laugh... but more of a good thing...

Parked my Z4MR at Halfords and a few German tourists came up from nearby - "ooh is it really M3?", "can we see engine", etc. so I explained that it was the same engine as M3 and showed them around etc which made them happy.

This just goes to show though that its a disadvantage that BMW didn't call it something like an "M4" and include side gills on it, as the tell tale signs apart from the M badge are so minor that people can just think its fake.

those that care know its an ///M. For those that don't u could paint it in M colours and theyd stil be none the wiser!

That is why you blip your throttle good and proper (assuming it's warmed up ;) )

The badge is ultimately meaningless.

Personally I'd take them off an M car to save myself the embarrasment of being associated with the M for Marketing that it has become these days.

Lost track how many times people have said to me is that really an M! :x

Parked up outside my bank last week and pulled up behind a 3 series convertible - not sure which one. know very little about the 3 series, but it had a very small exhaust and looked quite old - the young lad walked out of the bank as i was getting out mine, i tutted and shook my head, he went very red faced, did not need to say anything else, he knew.

I am curious did all M3 have quad exhausts, i was at Oulton Park and there where a couple of old M3, but they only had twin exhausts, wondered if the really old models only came with twins, one was driven by one of the instuctors and did want to make myself look stupid by asking him, it was a really well looked after nice car?

The quads started with the E39 M5, and the Z3 M's and then the E46 M3...

The M's before that were all twins at one side... which imho looks much nicer I think... the quads has been a bit over-done now I think...

One of these days I'll put a "hybrid" badge under the rear M badge. And if someone asks I'll tell them I'm getting 35mpg, in the city

When you think about it, it could be not such a bad thing, everybody knows that M3's, M5's exist, and if you asked anybody in the street to name a bmw M car, they would probably say M3.

However that fact that Z4M's are as rare as they are, probably makes it feel more special does it not ?....I see hundreds of M3's round manchester everyday, and due to that it has made me go off them slightly due to the popularity. I have only ever seen about 2 maybe 3 Z4M's. In fact, never seen a Z4M Coupe round here yet ?.....that must make them very special.

Same reason I wear the DINAN badge...

My brother told me that at first glance it looks like it says DIANE, and its a chick car! Whatever. :wkr:

But I wear the badge for those who know. Those who don't, let them wonder. :scratchhead:

A Friend of mine has a brand new GTI, he has it chipped, intake, and exhaust. It sounds mean as all hell, and will probably kick my ass straight line. But I laugh, and at the end of the day... I'm still driving a BMW at 22yrs old :driving:
