From Page 18 of the new Evo Magazine....buried towards the end of an article on the new M3 CRT:-

"A successor to the Z4M looks probable too. This will most likely happen after the current Z4 receives its mid-life facelift, sometime in the next couple of years"

:D :driving:

Here I am :D

Remember that I want a decent engine in it though, not one of those double turbo 3.0 jobbies.

Would the V8 from the current M3 do the jobbie.... sorry I mean do the job? :D

Oh yes, that would be the only engine that could really tempt me. Lovely one ...

If it was going to be the bog standard 3.0 again like in the 1M, I think I would have to consider the upgrade to the 911.

Hmm as you say, I wonder if they would use the S65 engine, as the last non-turbo ///M engine. Although I could actually see them dropping the 35is from the range and using the same engine, adding the M diff, and that's about it.

The new SLK55 AMG has a new V8 which shuts down half the cylinders at various times. Sounds great. Not sure that the Z4 would compete with that, 290g CO2 and less than 23mpg. And everyone is bothered about fuel consumption and emissions now.

Considering the last Z4 M was an faze out M3 model bitsa, I would think if there is a new Z4M it would be the same, so my guess is the V8. Also the GT3 car uses the V8 engine.

Would be a great car, but I bet it will Porsche GT money! Depends in 2 years time what the latest crazy tree hugging emissions are I guess! They may not be able to use that V8!

There won't be an E89 Z4M - the surest sign is that BMW has never vigorously denied it, like they did the last two times. :)

I just don't see them putting the S65 in the Z4 and they'd have to since they've already done the mildly-tuned turbo bit with the Z4is.

The tree huggers will eventually go passé as the hot headedness around the climate topic of the last years wear off.
I'm putting a dime on that they are just waiting for things to calm down before taking a z4m into serious consideration.

From what I can see people are little by little getting a more well rounded view of the subject which allows both sides of the equation to be considered calmly and not only the zealous stance of the climate hysterics ridiculing anybody with another opinion than themselves.

Or you can just buy this baby:

albeight a bit too much of the track side of things and too little on the cruise side.
I'll hold for a new z4 M.

The single or twin turbo 3.0 are fantastic engines. They ought to wring out as much power as they can from one of those if they do a Z4M.
V8 will be too heavy for a roadster and ruin the dynamics of the car.

The S65 V8 is about 50lbs lighter than the inline 6 S54 in my M Coupe, and about the same weight as the N54, so no, it won't.

If it affects the dynamics of the car, BMW Motorsport wouldn't have put V8 in the GT3 race car.

Have you seen how far back and how low they've mounted the engine in that race car? Amazing really. If they can do that with a road car E89 Z4M I'm first in line.

Even so,in my opinion the turbo 6 is still the better engine for a roadster. A V8 will alter the dynamics (or personality) of the car. The GT3 is built specifically to handle the V8 power.

We all have different opinions on engine, but I don't think BMW is seriously planning on a Z4M, so it may all be a moot point.

The Turbo 3.0 is a fantastic engine, according to every review it's ever received.
Smaller engines, turbos and superchargers are becoming more and more popular and are the wave of the future. One of those V8 jobbies in a street roadster would be a real bad idea.
