Hey i’m taking mine in for a professional paint correction, a deep/proper polish and then gtechniq ceramic coating. Who’s had this done? I would love to see some pics and information on washing etc after the work has been done.

Cheers!

Never heard of ceramic coating. Sounds interesting. I can feel a Google coming on.

It protects the paint of swirls and marks for 5 years, and repels spots and mud much better!

Just make sure the base is good e.g. the polish finish. Otherwise you'll have that locked in for years.

Mine was done just before I bought it. I can definitely say it improves the water beading on the car, and makes it easier to clean.

Regarding cleaning, have a look for a youtube video from PanTheOrganiser about a maintenance wash on a ceramic coated car. He goes into detail of what hes doing and why, how to wash, and what products to use (so you don't damage the coating, and boost its longevity).

Mine below:
4.jpg

Products:
Karcher K4 Full Control Pressure Washer
Gyeon Q2M Bug & Grime
Gyeon Q2M Snow Foam
Gyeon Q2M Bathe+ (though I'd just go for normal Bathe from experience)
Gyeon Q2M Iron
Gyeon Q2M Cure (for protecting/boosting ceramic coat)
Gyeon Q2 Tire

I've tried lots of the home DIY ceramic coatings such as Crystal Serum Light and they have all being very disappointing (and that's with a proper 3 day paint prep before hand with a DA polisher). Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra should be better, unfortunately they won't sell it to the diy market so you are stuck with having it professionally applied in conjunction with a detail which is expensive. Overall I don't think they are good value for money.

I have never used Gtechniq ceramic coating, so I will just comment on washing. I would say that there is little difference when washing a car that has a ceramic coating as long as your washing procedure is:
1. Use a ph neutral shampoo
2. Use a grit guard in your bucket and if you can, use the 2 bucket method (Google it)
3. Use a soft mitt or one of the 'new' microfibre 'sponges'
4. Don't press firmly with your wash mitt
5. Dry gently with a good quality microfibre made specifically for drying. If you can blow dry the car, even better.
6. Avoid so called 'Quick Detailers' that cost under £12 as they will not do anything for your coating. This area is like a good wine, spend more for a quality product that will protect the coating for a period. If your budget can run to it, I would recommend POLISH ANGEL Cosmic Spritz. Don't try and out think the Chemist by buying cheap products or by layering wax and shiny stuff on top of the coating.
You are in a minefield though, with thousands of products out there and equally thousands of people like me trying to give you advice.

Thanks dude.

The guy I'm using is pretty switched on to be fair, they detail big boys toys all the time, and even brand new cars, he knows his stuff.

I love the washing tips above, I was with the detailer earlier who told me exactly as per above (even though he uses compressed air to dry) so Im going to get the things I need.

He quote me £750 for the polish, exo and crystal coating (5 years guarantee) but as I'm a professional videographer, I'm making him a promo for a swap for his services. Winner!

Had mine done just over a week ago, although not in the Z4 anymore. Was done professionally, 2 stage minor correction then coated with Kamikaze Zipang Coat, plus wheels off work at White Details. Really pleased with how it’s turned out, looks like a new car.

Did first wash today, usual, snow foam, 2 bucket method, and invested in a water filter for use with the final rinse. Wow, what a difference the filter has made, minimal water left on the car and just a quick dab dry. Wish had got one before!

I think it looks great, but I have nothing to compare it against. Had not seen a car with ceramic coating, only via videos and know one I know has had it done. It’s the first time in over 30 yrs driving that I have had a car professionally detailed and thought would like to get it done at some point. Better late than never!

I usually have just used super resin polish, sealant or wax. But this finish is on another level, it’s got a good gloss finish to it, almost wet look. My car is a flat red so the colour is nice and deep, due to the machine polish. No more swirls! As far as I know it’s not been layered with any of the other Kamikaze products.

I try and look after my cars cleaning wise, snow foam, 2 bucket method etc. So now it’s been done as posted above I’ve got myself a water filter to try and cut down on bad contact with the paint. Next purchase could be a hot air blower too.

I thought I was having a Gyeon based coating but it seems Jim at White Details has gone onto the Kamikaze. I had purchased some Gyeon Cure that acts as a rapid detailer so will give this a go in a couple of weeks. Noticed that Kamikaze do something similar but that was quite pricey!

I see that you have become a certified Kamikaze detailer, and that I think you will love their products and you’re customers will be very happy too. I’m sure if you were to contact Jim he would pass on his thoughts or recommendations with the product.

I can keep you updated over the next months to see how the durability is going!

What water filter did you get? The water spots drive me crackers so keen to try and minimise these.

I got one of these

http://www.raceglaze.co.uk/race-glaze/400-litre-0ppm-car-washing-filter/

Also a water tester, but got that off eBay. Think it was £3.19 delivered.

Perfect opportunity to test it on you’re new purchase.

I think a lot of people are getting used to the look of the new CTR now and it seems to be getting less radical now everyone is over the initial shock. I thought it looked great from day 1. I think it looks even better now, esp in the right colour.
