Monsoon Hoods group buy - any interest

Hello,

From the "what did you do to your car today?" thread I noticed a few people ask for recommendations for replacing the hood and monsoon seem to get good reviews. I made contact with Monsoon automotive https://www.monsooncarhoods.co.uk/bmw-z4-hoods as they offer a group buy option : 10% discount

I wondered whether anyone else was interested? I am going to press ahead as I have wear holes in the top layer of canvas and whilst this isn't actually the waterproofing layer so it isn't leaking - it does set off my OCD a bit :?

NB. They are currently not providing a fitting service due to the C19 apocalypse; but I'm hopeful normal service with resume soon

further details to follow.

Always toyed with the idea of getting a red roof on my white roadster... “possibly” interested depending on price etc.

They do look great!

I've looked at the monsoon web site - but was thinking more in the future of course like Jingle a good deal might bring it forward.

Having looked at their website I was considering the blue hood on a montego blue Zed - has anyone done this yet or got photos?

You should be able to find photos of a blue roof on a white Z4, but that’s the only one I’ve seen, and it was the monsoon show car.

The Monsoon website has a blue hood on a blue Zed 3 but the car is a lighter blue than mine. They do show an Audi 80 dark blue with blue hood which looks OK (colour wise) ... can't imagine blue on blue will be a disaster though.

Under £600 would be a great price. Do you know how much fitting costs ? Doesn’t seem to say on the website.

That's not red it's burgundy.

Johnny Essex had a red roof but really it was burgundy.

With the discount it comes in just under £600. I'd looked previously and I think it was ~£1000 fitted. 2 man job and a couple of hours I'd imagine.

It's red. I have the monsoon hood on my car.

In terms of price, I think I paid £970 supplied and fitted.

Fitting time was around 7 hours. Big job apparently.

Looks good for a B U R G U N D Y roof.

Might consider it if we ever get out of this lockdown.

What does it look like at the back?

Same rear window?

Does the heated rear window work?

Love the red roofs you see on alot of verts. £600 does seem a pretty decent price. There was someone on here who had a mobile fitter do his about a year back. Looked a great job. I think he was recommended to him and advertises on Facebook. Might be worth considering when the world stops ending

Yea the colour is in-between, but I’m happy with the red lol.

Been following it for a while and still only know of 2 members to have ever had the red. Jonny Essex and Ben G

Both look great, I know I’m biased but defo think red would look best on a white Z :fuelfire:

Call it what you want. It's red :P it's brighter in colour than the Mercedes and audi roofs that I've seen.

Here's a view of the back. The rear window is slightly smaller in terms of width (top to bottom) than the oem roof. I think the length (side to side) is about the same measurement as oem. I personally prefer this. No negative impact of rear view from inside the car from what I've noticed over the years.

Yes the heated rear window works perfectly. It clears really quick in icy weather. I drive mine all year round and never have an issue. The wiring is slightly on show on the inside, but you'd never notice it unless you looked for it. I'll try and get a photo today of it from inside the car.

Personally, as cosmetic modifications go, it's quite a major change and worth the investment. My oem roof was knackered after many costs of renovo reviver and the fold marks drove me crazy, so it was a no brainer for me. Its been 4 and a half years now and still looks great once cleaned.

Lot of people use Jack Smith in Swansea, always giood reports on the forum of the quality of his work. Waiting list as he gets busy but very competative prices. https://www.facebook.com/JackRSmithMotorTrimmers/

If I can find someone in Scotland that can fit the fabric then I'd certainly consider it.

Not burgundy though as it'll have to be black.

New roof certainly takes a few years off the car.

Even though I don't have my Zed yet, I'm seriously considering a new hood for it. Not that there's anything wrong with the one it has as far as I know, but mainly because a red hood would go nicely with the retrimmed interior the car will get once it's in my possession.

So I could be interested in this!
