Monroe shocks and top mounts

Just fitting monroe rear top mounts and shocks. Easy enough but I have a large, m12 spacer type washer in with the new shocks. Been reading in to this as there's no fitting instructions or explanation included and I'm getting mixed messages of use/don't use, use instead of the original lower curved washer, use in between the lower curved washer and new top mount to create a flatter surface.

Anyone any idea, or better still fitted these?

I simply used the existing mounting parts swapped over from the old shocks.
Look at the bottom mounting eye. From memory it doesn’t have the metal plate on one side of the bush like OE does. The washer is supposed to fit there instead.

Wot he said. I fitted Monroe rear shocks a year or two ago and have forgotten all about it but EZ's post brings back a memory of the washer going on the bottom mount.

Turns out they go in between the original bolt head and the metal sleeve to even out compression across the inner sleeve to the hub. Makes sense as the bolt head is only just larger than the same sleeve.

Fitted this morning as it was the final part after replacing the top mounts, bump stops, dust covers and shocks.

All Monroe so let's see how it drives.

Did you end up using longer m12 bolts? The original ones only just pass thru the trailing arm sorting hardly any thread.
Nope. Didn’t see any difference from original as that had the built in spacer anyway.
In my RAF days we worked on 1.5 protruding threads being in safety.
