As a business owner, with definite cash flow issues, it always scares me when i see the big bois folding..... i find myself sitting here at my desk, listening to the news wondering what chance the small fish like myself have???? Cant imagine how many staff and effected customers in relation to this!

Business is just one massive risk...... scary when you have kids relying on you.

Sorry if this has effected anyone on the forum!

A lot more difficult to run than a small business through. Cost control in an airline must be a nightmare nevermind the massive competition.

The GF flew in from barca last night landed 11:50 literally 10 mins before it folded super lucky to get home.

My neighbours were supposed to be off this week for a couple of weeks in the sun whilst I plaster their stairwell and hallways , it was working great for both of us as could make as much mess as I wanted and they would just walk into a fresh clean finished job , not now :headbang:
He's atol protected at least , it could have been worse .

We're due to fly out on Thursday. Villa sorted but now we're not sure if we can get there! Super inconvenient and annoying!

We are due to fly out to Madeira at the beginning of December with Monarch. Quite correctly the travel company are dealing with those stranded first. So at the moment we have no idea whether we'll be going or not. We booked a holiday at the exact same time to the same place in 2016 and I managed to have a heart attack the day before we were due to fly. I am very thankful that I took ill before we flew or I probably wouldn't have been writing this post!

Depends of what you have been eating I suppose..!!

We lost our flights when XL Travel collapsed in 2008. The first thing I did was book new flights for us all that evening. They cost a fair bit more than the originals, but the important thing, holiday sorted. :D  We then contacted ABTA and barclaycard, either of whom could cover the cost. We eventually received a full refund, for the original flights, from ABTA, about 7 months later. Have fun.

I definitely hear that, if you take the self employed route in whatever industry youre in there will always be factors you cant control, but you need to be able to adapt, recover and keep going...

I don’t think your meant to go there.

Hi Maxman
You do have a point. Although we have been holidaying there for over ten years. Hopefully we can rebook. In the scheme of things it is not really that important.

Sorry for all the staff and people directly impacted by this. Terrible times. This has been on the cards for a good while, so only a case of when, not if..

In a bizarre twist having flown with them several times each year for years to Malaga, for unrelated reasons I booked with Norwegian to fly this weekend. Feels like a bit of a lucky fluke

Discussed on R4 at lunchtime today it was mentioned that the Norwegian factor had weighed heavy in the demise  business is business in whatever field , if you can't compete its game over :(

I'm getting married next week.... In Tenerife

12 of the guests had Monarch for at least one leg of the Journey so we have a few now on 2 leg flights going via either Barcelona or Gran Canaria and one lot driving up to Scotland to fly out from there think everyone is sorted now but was an extra stress I didnt need...

My father was a captain for Monarch for most of my life (30 odd years) and had recently retired. He knew things weren't looking good so when he retired he moved his pension into a private firm. Lost a bit on it but he's grateful now.

It's the owners that caused the downfall. I won't go into the specific details but the previous owners sold to greybull capital (basically the same people as the previous owners just a new name). They were more interested in the scrap value of the company (slots at Gatwick and Manchester) than the business. It's also fishy how the same company makes profit in the previous year and then major losses the next. He thinks they've used Monarch to clear the books elsewhere as it were. He's always swore that the Italian mafia were connected!

Arrived back in Liverpool this morning from Malta, Flew with Ryanair, my wife and myself were worried whether we would get home ok with the problems Ryanair are having at the moment, heard about Monarchs collapse yesterday sad for all the staff.
Travelled all over Malta and only spotted two Z4's, a 3 litre stirling grey with the offside front wing dented, :( and a 2litre titan silver like mine :)
