While talking with the service advisor this morning i asked how i stand regards warranty issues when modifications have been carried out, such as suspension, exhaust systems, engine tuning/remaps etc, he tells me the bmw stance is only the areas that have been changed would the warranty be void, the only grey area would be an engine tune/remap because the information upload would stay on the bmw system even if the tune /remap was removed, so any warranty issues regards the engine would be up for debate/argue/fight. Forewarned forearmed.

I also asked this and got the same answer
Only the bits that have been modified will not be covered

I can vouch for that also. Though on the remap front, the ESS kit can clear any codes or records incurred with a remap... so I'm told.

Does it mean though, that if you map it, and they find out, then later you put it back to original - but then have a problem, would they say the original remap might have lead to this?

It's a possibility, but then again if dealers can attribute a fault to any modification then they will. Don't believe for a second they'll just stop at direct components related to a suspension upgrade for example. At the end of the day you have to be comfortable with the potential repercussions modifications my lead to. If you have the available funds to guard against worst case scenarios e.g should your engine develop a serious fault, then you should be covered no matter what. I have a good dealership and they know how well I look after my vehicles, but I also have an even better independant specialist
