Hi all fellow zed owners!

Only had my Zed about a month but thought I'd share my mods done so far and thoughts on future plans! This bloody site is really good and the mods is becoming an obsession! I love it!

I'm in the process of adding some pics with this but with the weather as it is, I don't fancy getting wet! :)

Mods done so far:-
1) Stubby aeriel
2) Aux input - a complete pain in the ass to get the vents out, but after that fun, only took a few mins. Got it mounted inside the ashtray.
3) Full circle break lights - again, a simple quick easy mod - thanks again to this site.
4) Chrome exhaust tip - so simple, but looks 100 times better!
5) Bonnet sensor bluetack mod! - alarm has been causing me grief, so stuck a huge bit of bluetack on top of the sensor and wehey, it works! :D

Mods to do
1) Wind deflector - clearly gonna wait until next summer!
2) Clear side indicator lights - anyone have any for sale? Are they expensive from the stealers? Do I need to change the bulbs once I do this?
3) Rear lights (the ones with clear white indicators) & and the clear 3rd break light strip - I've seen a few of you guys have done this mod. Can I only get these lights from the stealers (for how much?) or anyone got any for sale?
4) ZHP gearknob - I've seen that everyone recommends this, but I don't like the idea of putting a M part on my non-M car. What you guys think?

I also need an outdoor car cover. Don't suppose anyone's got one going cheap. Saw an OEM on ebay for £170 :( My ZED will just have to get bombarded by the weather for a bit longer I think.

Hope you guys can give me a few more ideas and help out on the above questions.

Cheers!

They are reasonably priced from the dealers, £11 without the badges, or something like that.

Loads of people have done it, doesn't look out of place at all.

I agree with Wondermike - looks fine on my z. Improves the feel of the gear changes 100% as well.

was your alarm going off all the time? mine has started to do it in the middle of the night recently.

where is it and what does the bluetack do???

Rudd - replace the pressure switch. Costs about £5 takes 30 seconds to fit and cures all the false alarm issues. Well known problem.

It's on the firewall lip just where the 2 brace tubes meet in the centre

The clear lights can be achieved quite cheaply like i did...

Get a carbon rear diffuser. You won't regret. :) What colour is your Z4?

I still keep the wind deflector on even in Winter.

Got a spotless black Zed. Diffuser sounds good. How much of this months wage packet will I be looking to blow on my car? :-)

Hi Dreamer - that link doesn't really say how you did it. I don't mind having a go at this mod, but don't wanna mess anything up. I reckon it'll take me forever due to being over careful with it all. Could you tell me the kits / websites / links I need to get the relevant bits? Thanks mate. Sorry to be a pain. All in the nature of modding!

Hi again guys

Just wanted to bump this thread to get a few more responses to my original comments.

I've also just called the local stealers regarding the rear clusters (the ones that have the clear indicator on them) and 3rd break strip (white)

Even with 10% off the total for the set was £320.57!!! Now, if you ask me, thats crazy! Anyone else had better prices recently or better ideas what I can do.

Thanks guys

No probs. You buy this light set here.....

http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-Z4-Rueckleuchten-umruestset-in-Weiss-Heckleuchten_W0QQitemZ220516413133QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r?hash=item3357cd6ecd

Which at 90 euros is very cheap! You then buy a can of red tint spray from ebay, mask of the center circles with regular masking tape (cut round with a sharp craft knife) and spray red. Then peel of the masking tape and spray clear laquer over to ensure its a durable finish.
The Fog light will need replacing with a red bulb. It was VERY easy and looks perfect.

Close up....

noooo.. do it now.. you'll get more advantage from it in winter sun

+1 on that! I rarely use mine in the summer unless I have passengers.

Not sure if you're doing this, but I'd keep an eye on eBay and the like for the parts you need and bag them when they come up - even if you're not plan to fit right away! Always found with my bike that if I waited until I was ready the prices went up or were never available.

yeah, wind deflector in cold winter weather is worth it!

its nice to get the roof down when the sun is out

clear side indicators are easy as heck to do, and I believe they're £7 a side from the stealer (although I'll search for the post in a sec :P).

All you do is buy the clear plastic ring to replace the amber ring, seperate the BMW badge from the old amber one, then re-attach to the new clear one, throw in an amber bulb, and you're done.

EDIT: have a read of THIS THREAD as it has prices, part numbers and instructions :D

Dreamer - you are a legend! Thanks mate. Just what I was hoping for. I was looking on german ebay yesterday, but my German is not so good! :D

I'm gonna buy this now. Do you know what bulb it is exactly I'll need for the fog light? Can I get it from the stealers?

Thanks to you other guys for responses too. I'll keep an eye out for the wind deflector. Is it defo worth waiting for one on Ebay and not going stealers. I've seen a few on ebay but they have been the plastic ones or something?

want to fit an after market head unit that i can still you MSFW telephone function with, been told its not possible urghhhhhhhhhh
