Mod: Just installed dash kit overlay

Even though the car has always received TLC, scratches on the aluminium trim seem inevitable on this car. So I thought I'd give this piano black overlay a try.

Two things I like about this particular kit:
1) It doesn't use a promoter to help it stick (special 3M promoterless tape), so it could be removed at anytime without damaging the pieces underneath.
2) The dash overlay that goes around the radio is made of one piece (unlike most others that have a joint right in the middle!)

I think the piano black works well with the original aluminium trim framing it. Only used less than half of the 22 pieces they supplied. Didn't want to overkill the original look of the interior. I'll probaly have the aluminium trim wrapped in black leather with red stiching (à la Alpina extended leather option) in a few years. In the meantime, better than looking at those nicks and scratches...

I like the bit around the stereo and the way the aluminium frames it as you say, however the parts in the centre console look a little too much like an 'add on' to me.

All you need now is the red floor mats, as seen here:

Looks better than I would have thought

x2

I would have been worried about the black in a car with grey interior but it doesn't look bad. Makes the carbon leather more tempting for my Z with grey interior. I'd want to change the gearknob and gaitor to black too though. It would probably be one the last mods I do, other things to do first.

Thanks for the mat link, looks nice. Before I consider that though, going to get Leatherz shift boot and steering tabs in dream red leather done.

Going to ask Andy to custom make my steering tabs with stitching across the center of the 3 pieces, like the seats and door panels. What do you all think?

I haven't seen this before (steering tabs), looks sexy! I like it! Andy does great work, I ordered the beige center armrest, w/cup holder on top (like Ron's), as well as ordered the padded door armrest.

I really don't like the steering wheel like that  Probably doesn't help that the photo's make it look like rubber. With the central gap on the lower spoke covered up, it makes it look a bit basic and toylike.

The gearstick, I'm borderline on, it just seems like something you'd expect from a Honda, not a BMW. :poke:

I pretty much agree. I will have to see those mods in person before I say if it's an "I want" or not

Few more pics asked by Aebous :

Interesting to read those negative comments about the steering tabs and shifter boot! Enough to make me rethink my approach, given the class of vehicle we drive. Thanks for your comments.

Very nice !
I almost bought something like this the other day, but i have some other priorities (do want that full HD projector...).
I have one question though : the bottom of the "empty space" below the parking brake handle seems to be black, it doesn't look OEM, is this right ?
What exactly did you use for this piece ?

Cut a polyester covered foam pad I had laying around and stuck it there with two-sided tape. You could always cut to fit somekind of thin rubber mat like we sometimes see in automotive consoles.
