Looking for an inexpensive solution as changing from RFT's to Falkens.

I want to keep s"whateve I get" in the battery compartment hidden away and not in the boot.

E BAy have the full BMW mobility kit for £103 !!

There is a "Slime" kit for £23.90

There are somE Ford ones - (doe they all do the same thing??/)

.... or ....(as I shan't be doing many miles and should have the time to wait for breakdown recovery)

Would a couple of cans of Holts Tyre Weld at £12 be just as good ??? (not sure of thE differnce between the "Weld" and the "nobility kits")

Have looked at previous posts but now a little confused as to options as this is new to me!

Thanks

Geoff

Check out this thread, I purchased this compressor and a couple of cans of Holts Tire weld, the compressor fit's into the battery compartment, the cans are just lying in the boot well (until I sort a proper location for them)

You won't regret the change, it is amazing the difference in handling.

Many thanks. I still don't have the (new to me-bought privately) car yet - at Indy having work done .Decided as 2 RFT's needed swap the lot out on advice of this forum.

As I don't have car not sure what fits where. The cheap compressor is a good idea but where do teh Holts Tire weld fit -I see it the post which says they are in the top up oil container but where is that?

Also how do the Holts weld function in comparison to the mobility Gunk kits?? Is it pump in the Tire weld then inflate with a cpmpressor??

Thanks

I have the mobility kit with the car and bought tyre weld as well as a back up. Only difference is that tyre weld includes the air as well while the mobility kit has a pump also. Our other BMW( 3 series) also has a mobility kit and I noticed it's a different size from the Z4 one.

Two tins of Holts tyre weld fit nicely in a BMW 1lt oil bag, keeps the boot tidy and stops them rolling round the boot

If you are buying a mobility kit off ebay ,check the sell by date of the gunge.I have seen a few which are just in there sell by date.

Thanks-is the Holts Tyre weld stuff pumped in to a flat tyre then re-inflated using a seperate pump or is a seperate pump not needed? I see that the gung and pump work together. What I am trying to understand is if the tyre weld includes the air why would I need both tyre weld and a pump? Sorrry new to me. Thanks.

Yes, if you're using the Holts stuff you still need a compressor (I believe). I carry a small compressor, separate "proper" analogue pressure gauge (cos I doubt the accuacy of most gauges on compressors) plus 2 cans of Holts stuff, all fitted around the battery below the boot floor:

I also carry a wheelbrace and jack but that's because I sometimes carry a spacesaver wheel too.

Holt's inflates the tyre and seals at the same time but as above I carry two tins and a small compressor in the boot, I have the Caver amp so it doesn't fit in with the battery.

cheers guys - this was all a mystery to me too, just ordered 2x Holts and the compressor from Amazon. Roll on road-trip in august...... :driving:

Now get one of these to put the holts in, It'll velcro to the boot liner

Sorry guys - so if the hoots inflates and seals why do you need a compressor- or am I missing something? Thanks

I just don't trust the Holts to inflate the tyre fully lol - belt and braces approach (assuming the Holts seals the puncture!)

Just incase to top the presure up plus If I didn't have far to go I wouldn't use the holts I'd try to reinflate the tyre with the compressor as some places don't like to repair tyres after you've used Holts or similar as its a pain to clean the inside of the tyre

Doesnt the Holts say 15 inch wheels or something. Mine are in the car and cannot be bothered to go check but sure one can said only for 15 inch wheels. Unless it comes in different sizes? I have opted for two cans, one in each of the left and right netted areas in the coupe which fits nicely, and the RAC compressor tucked away nicely in the battery compartment. All bases covered for £20.

ditto. Interested about the 15" issue, tho I've only 16" 104's so close!

Also, still sorta on subject - is it just plain overkill to also carry an emergency spare wheel, jack and spanner ?
and if so any clear recommendations?

..... You may get a hint that I'm slightly risk adverse.
