Mobile Tyre Fitters

Hoping to get my runflats replaced with Vreds next week.
Any reason I shouldn't be considering using a Mobile Tyre Fitting service (AA Mobile/Event Tyres)?
My other option is Blackcircles delivering to a local Alloy Wheel/Tyre centre for fitting.
Are the machines they use the same?
Does any part of the machine touch the rim?

There have been reports on here of people having their alloys damaged when having tyres fitted. Just want to make sure that if I go the mobile route that the equipment used is similar spec to a fitting centre. I know that a lot will be down to the skill/care of the fitter.

And yes I do realise the tyres would be a lot cheaper from the likes of Camskills

Never used a mobile fitter. Having looked at the equipment they use in a fixed base tyre fitter I have some concerns about a mobile fitter - particularly when balancing as i.m.o. non expert opinion I would have thought that to balance properly the machine needs to be fixed and calibrated to a solid base. Would rather purchase and take to a local fixed base fitter. No doubt others have a more informed experience.

Had my Vreds fitted at home by a mobile fitter. The kit he had installed in his van was the same as in any tyre bay. As a one man show I think he took more care as it was his equipment and his reputation on the line. I'm about to use him again on the wife's car.

I used Tyre-Shopper.com - ordered on line and fitted by National Tyres - exemplary service - and have all the latest equipment to safeguard against any damage to rims - not a mark left on my alloys!! Yes - Camskills were cheaper but by the time you add postage , fitting , balancing and tracking worked out roughly the same without all the hassle ! You will have to pursuade them to fit non runflats though. As I was replacing like for like ( RFT's ) it wasn't an issue for me.

I've used event tyres on a few occasions, they've done a great job and really looked after the alloys. I'd probably trust them more than your high-street tyre fitter - I remember having a chat with the chap who came to do the work about the care they take, was reassuring.

I used MobiTyres once...... never again. marked every alloy, and even let one run off down the road and land on its face.

Havent had a good experience using a tyre fitter for years. Each one has damaged a wheel in a different way.

I am tempted to go to the stealers when I get my refrubed rims through, as I simply dont trust anyone else not to make a mess

I have a friend who runs a tyre fitting shop. Does all the high end cars at dealer's from his fleet of vans. Each has £000's of equipment in and he tells me they do an identical job to his main unit, but it all comes down to the individual operators skill.

Funnily enough I get all mine done at his main base and still watch what's going on...

They screw up - they replace the wheel, simple as that. Not a discussion that would work with either a mobile tyre fitter or any tyre fitting place to be honest.

I've used e-tyres before as I got a company staff discount, but they've become more expensive than the local guys. They were very good on looking after the wheels though. I had never thought of having the dealer fit the tyres. I thought they just contracted out to the local guys.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Gonna see if I can book the AA for Monday. See who turns up and if I don't like, he can be on his way.

Would love to go this route PVR but my dealer won't entertain it. Nor will he let me supply my own oil for the pending Oil Service. If it wasn't a condition of my warranty I'd find a local Indy for any works.

They wont let you supply your own oil??

Thats what I was told when enquiring about the tyres.
They'd only use items purchased through themselves.

No experience of a mobile tyre fitter myself but one of my friends uses Event Tyres in the local area on his tres expensive Porsche Carrera S. He only has good things to say about them. And he takes care of his car.
