Mobile phone companies - what logic do they follow?!!!

Got a call from my mobile operator last week telling me I've been with them longer than my initial contract, so was due an upgrade. I was too busy to speak so said I'd call them back later (I was at work). Over the past couple of days I had a poke around online and found a couple of cracking deals on new contracts with the same mobile operator.

Called my mobile operator tonight asking about upgrade prices. Just about fell off my seat at the prices they were quoting...

Mentioned to them I'd found a deal ON THEIR OWN FECKING WEBSITE for new customers that was significantly less (and we're taking over £360 cheaper over 24 months: £30/month vs £15/month).

So, do you think they can offer me the same deal- an existing customer who's been with them for over 3 years?

Did they f**k.

Seriously, where's the logic in that? :crazydude:

So I've given my 30-days notice and will be buying a new contract from the same company as a new customer. Madness.

On another note, anyone here using the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc? I'm an Android phone fan (stick yer iPhones) and currently using a Samsung Galaxy S. I was set on getting a Galaxy S2 as a replacement but there's MUCH better deals on the Sony. I've really liked all the Sony handsets I've had in the past plus the Arc is getting great reviews online, but I'm just worried I'm compromising by not holding out for a Galaxy S2 (which is apparently the dogs danglies). It runs the same version of Android (2.3.3) so should be pretty damn good. Anyone got some words of wisdom?

Got a Galaxy S myself too. My first Android phone after 3 different Windows Mobile ones. Will never go back!

The Experia Arc seems to be getting great reviews. Looks nice, good screen (although not as good quality as the Galaxy S!), decent camera and decent processor. The GS2 will be faster as it's dual core than the Arc's single core but if it's much cheaper then the Sony Ericsson might be a better overall deal.

I could never understand the logic of treating new customers better than established customers... :o

I remember similar dealings with a fruit based provider years ago, I was quite happy with the tarif etc but just wanted a newer phone when my contrct was up, went into the shop and they told me it would be £X to upgrade, Went home rang their customer services informed them that I would cancel the contract as I could go to any provider including themselves and get said phone for free on a new contract, they asked what it would cost to keep me as a customer. 24 hrs later I was swapping my sim cards over.

The guys in the shops for some reason are not allowed to give the same deals and offers as the actual customer services people, crazy really.

Now don't forget to get the PUK number, to make an even bigger mockery of it you get to keep the same number.

Can't PUK to same provider without moving to PAYG with someone else first.

Yep I asked for it after I'd given my notice last night. Now this might be BS from them, but they said they couldn't give me my PUK to port my number after I'd cancelled the contract! I personally DO think it's BS and will be calling them again to request it. I'd port it to a PAYG on another network, then port it again back onto my monthly contract.

Although to be fair I've got no attachment to my current number. Just means I can escape from some folk who wouldn't have my new one
