Its like the vw polo they facelifts are largely exactly the same as the previous model with some visual and some mechanical revisions.. I dont know enough about the Ford's to know the difference but most manufacturers do this these days...

Wiki has the full details on facelift differences..

mk3 11 - present

I forgot about the facelift mk1s.... The old T reg did look different to the late 04s right enough :)

Mk2 looks bloody awful in comparison IMO. Anybody have experience with Citroen C4s?

Very much so, I think the mk1 (pre-facelift) has dated much faster than any of the others..

I think the Focus looks pig ugly and is just a load of common tripe, money just thrown away. The VW much better car in every aspect.

I'd say what you've written is common tripe :D

Looks are personal, so fair enough if that's your opinion. I'd hardly call a Focus common tripe and thrown away money though. Unless your Chris Harris, Tiff, the Stig or some sort of Jenson Button then the difference in technical capability from one marque to the other makes sod all difference these days. All recent Ford's have been lauded as fantastic handling cars, often best in class at their launch, but it makes no difference if you're pootling around town doing 30mph getting your shopping (or should make no difference if you're driving sensibly  ) My personal opinion, but the Golf I sat in before buying our Focus I thought was the most dull & uninspiring interior I've seen for a while. To me it felt stereotypically German - functional with no passion! The base spec Focus I sat in felt similarly boring, but the Ghia & Titanium specs felt really nice, so I guess the top-of-the-range Golf would probably also be better than the one I sat in.

BTW last years buying figures:

I'll accept they'll be skewed by non-personal buying but are 81000 people really buying a turd? I seriously doubt that any significant number of that 81k people wish they'd 'bought a golf'.

'VW are better' or 'Z4 roadsters :P are hairdresser's cars' are just the usual motoring stereotypes that are trotted out without any foundation.

Congrats on the new car OP, enjoy many happy miles. Being the titanium I'm assuming it's got the heated front windscreen which is fantastic on frosty mornings!

+1 on the Focus I'm on my second in 6 years as family transport having left VW when my Golf ran two engines in two years - just out of warranty of course and dealers not interested  even the basic Focus drives very well and they certainly don't squeak or rattle inside like some more illustrious motors

Well we picked it up tonight, i really like the car!

Loads of tech (possibly too many buttons) but really solid inside and feels as good as a golf/1 series

Really happy and the mrs is over the moon!
