Had the Z4 for 3 years and it was a good car, but the time came when the car was getting tired so I opted for another BMW and hearing how great the BMW Diesels were opted for this (and had it remapped to 217bhp!)….

Great car, and handles very well. Only gripe was it was a bit boring IMO. So 4 months later I chopped it in and picked up my new car on Thursday……

Not everyones cup of tea although I am now slightly in love with it TBH! Never had so much interest and attention when sat in traffic!

Great car, well built and has all the bits I need, far more fuel efficient then the 3.0 auto Z4 too. Only prob I’ve picked up on so far it that it doesn’t handle as well as either the Z4 or the 1er. That said, the looks are the trade off, this car is stunning IMO. Definitely my favourite car so far! 8)

Apparently the Car only weighs 1295kgs so will prob get it remapped soon to 240-250bhp and turn it into a proper scabble wagon! :)

Because it is not a quattro. I was also considering TT Coupe 2.0 quattro S Line before ordering E89.

Ksher, never begin a sentence with "because" it is considered bad grammar.

Further please see pic below, still a scrabble wagon and in no way handles like a RWD E85 Z4....

That said suppose it’s looks make up for that shortcoming. 

I love the interior on the TT but the looks I struggle with. Think I'd prefer the 1er but as you say, quite a plain looker.

Is that the standard exhaust on it?

The exhaust has Audi Sport trims which I had to order seperately. Similar I suppose to the trims that need to be on Z4s. Some seem to have them from the factory while others do not. Certianly makes the rear look more aggressive.

The 1 was definately a nice piece of kit but having come from a sports car like the Z4 I felt, and this is in no way meant an an offensive comment, like I was drving a van! God help me when kids arrive one day!

Had a TT in 2002 and loved it, many many good times with that car. Not the best driving tool known to man, but certainly has road presence and the 2.0T VAG engine is a gem. Could not be happier with it and its cheaper to insure than both the E81 and E85!

Just a shame the TT Forum is inhabited by a bunch of cnuts. The MK1 forum is ok albeit the MK2 forum is full of twonks who like to claim they are loaded- albeit I have to say the same is very amusing when I see pics posted of a brand new TTRS parked outside an apparent council house!!!! :poke:

Was just going to ask you what you thought of the TT forum lol ! my experience was the same when i had my TT. However where you are very happy with yours i had my MK1 approx 3 mothns and didnt like it at all tbh. The Mk 2 is very nice imo and yours looks 8)

I have to agree, the mk2 TT is a fine looking car... my mum loves hers :poke: :poke:

I especially like the wind deflector that pops up and down at the touch of the button - and the fact the roof foes up and down at up to 30 mph - very useful when it starts to rain!

Enjoy your new motor

Your signature has no quattro so I thought it was just a FWD TT. Also, the first picture did not really show the "quattro" badge.

I really thought quattro could go around corner faster than Zed.

Because it is not a quattro, TT (FWD) doesn’t handle as well as eitherthe Z4 or the 1er.
This is forum, not grammar school. :P (keeping sentences short and precise).

aren't you supposed to Fall on Your Sword or something when you buy one of those things - something about doing the honourable thing ....... :D

Least the new TT look nice  never really liked the old one. Was a good car, and I was going to get a 225 quattro for a while, but i never bothered after I had driven one.

These are supposed to be ten times better apparently. And someone I worked with had two of the older ones, and both had problems with all the dash just disappearing  bit strange, and Audi could not fix one of them.

My old neighbour had that problem too with a mk 1....

yeah its known as the dashpod issue, had it on my mk1 pile of crap as well as many other things.

loving the car by the way, although i do prefer the looks of the coupe if i am honest. I had a drive in my wife's friends TT roadster which she chose as her company car, nice detailing inside & out but the drive felt a bit numb and robotic, which i have felt on many other Audi's i have driven. Maybe it was just too easy to drive (like a golf) rather than the z4 were you feel a bit more involved?.

Must admit, I`ve owned a Mk2 TT as well, the 3.2V6, and although a lovely motor, it NEVER grabbed me like my Z4 Coupe has, especially to drive.

The looks were very impressive, especially as they hadn`t been out too long when I had mine (3 years ago), and it did look good, in white with the 19` RS alloys on it, but, and I know this may sound daft, I seem to get more admiring glances in the Zed than I did in the TT, but that may be down to the fewer numbers of the Coupe, as opposed to the TT ?

Not a bad car but I've just got a problem with the image (ironic given I drive a Z4...). Driven by twonks up here it seems - probably the exact same folk you refer to about the mk2 forum!

I prefer the mk1 TT looks myself as it's more of a classic shape IMO, the mk2 just isn't as distinctive. Supposed to be a massive difference in how they drive though.

+1 The Mk 2 does nothing for me in terms of looks the first had some design purity to it...... up here they are one of the default choices..... probably because it is a better all year round bet than a rwd roadster.

bet it drives ok though.... i had a MkV GTI and i thought the engine in it was genius.

Thanks for the comments folks it is interesting to gauge other's opinions on the car.

Have just come back form a couple days in Anglesey and racked up about 260 miles on all differing types of road so probably slightly better placed to now gauge the car in terms of a comparison with a 2005 3.0SE Auto Z4. The car now has 6k miles on it so is just about run in.

Engine Power
The engine is great and makes a throaty noise when reved. Its kicking out 200bhp at the moment and as the car is relatively light (Audi Space rame technology means lots of aluminium) so there is a decent enough power to weight ratio. During the trip the car was fully loaded with 2 adults a full boot and a cocker spaniel, there was always plenty of power on tap and 100mph was reached at a similar pace to the Z4. Whilst the engine is a 4 pot it is a great one and there is plenty of torque and it likes to rev.
Result- Draw

Engine Economy
Both cars have a 55 litre fuel tank. The Z4 on the same route returned 27-28 mpg while the TT returned 34mpg.
Result – TT

Handling
The car handles well enough. However it is in no way as sharp to drive as the Z4 and the turn is far more engineered for under steer. The car handles well to a point but probably to only 7/10s of the BMWs capability. When travelling at high speed the car also fails to feel planted as with the Z4.
Result- Z4 (RWD everytime)

Ride
The car is shod with 19" wheels wearing 19/35/255 tyres and I have to say it is far more comfortable than the Z4 with 18” runflats. I appreciate removing the runflats makes a bit difference.
Result- TT (IMO)

Cabin Comfort
The seats are more comfortable and supportive than the standard SE Z4 seats, however not as supportive as the Msport seats in my 1er which were similar to the Z4 Msport seats. The materials in the Audi win hands down and although it only has the standard 9 speaker sound system the stereo is a real piece of kit! Plenty of treble, bass and mid and very clear to boot.
Result - TT

Refinement
TT keeps wind noise to a minimum when the roof is up or down and the electric pop up windblocker is superb! The hood is well isulated. That said, so was the roof on the Z4. There not much in it here both are similar.
Result- Draw

Looks and style
Subjective subject, so very hard to call. However in my opinion the TT is the better design although perhaps looks a bit more feminine looking, notwithstanding the amount of interest it gets from pedestrians and other road user is very surprising and it certainly turns a lot of heads- women seem most keen to see whose driving ( to the annoyance of my girlf!). The Z4 with its long bonnet is defo more of a mans car, however the latest generation TT is more chunky and muscular and certainly getting there once shed with the right wheels and in the right colour. I like the car and certainlky have no issue with my sexuality preference! Infact I’d go as far as to say this is the best car I’ve owned looks wise and I never tire of looking at it!
Result- TT

All in all, the Z4 is a good car and a good drivers car at that. The TT is more of an all rounder and whilst not as good to drive as the BMW, certainly has its benefits as an everyday machine.

Bottom line is the TT is more of a refined car.

Typo, should have read 35.

Not working in Trafford anymore, the smell of Man U being a stone throw from the office sent me over the edge and I had to move. Now I have the joys of looking out on the Reebok! Blessed is this City fan.

Your car always looked very clean and low. Shame we never managed a traffic light grand prix.... auto v manual.... :)

ha ha, i know what you mean, it would be the same for me if i worked opposite the dump called Anfield. As for the motor i do like to keep it clean, in fact i think i have OCD. i even give the rims a wipe before i put it in the garage each night :?
