Help needed new to z4 ownership i have a 2003 3.0 z4 after some spirited driving eml came on code read missfire cylinder 5
Checked plugs etc and found 2 splits in throttle body boot purchaced new genuine boot now miss fire has moved to cyliner 4 ? Im at a loss advise would be much appreciated
 
Have you swapped the coil pack from the misfiring cylinder to another and read the codes again to see if the misfire follows the coil?

Assuming you put the coils and plugs back into the same cylinder when you did your checks, I'm curious whether it could be possible that more than one of your coils. plugs or injectors are intermittently failing, explaining why the misfire moved cylinders? Probably pretty unlikely though.

My torn intake boot caused my engine to run lean, but didn't cause an obvious misfire.
 
The intake boot split wouldn't cause a miss fire, it usually throws lean codes. I'd check all your coils are seated correctly and plugged in nice and tightly.

coil packs would be my vote. Replace all of them at one time, or maybe face this same issue next month on a different cylinder.
 
Thanks for advise but might have found problem working under bonnet today looked up mouse sat on wing it went under skuttle panel below screen sprayed some carb cleaner 5 mice came out z4 ownership might have been a short one dread to think what they have chewed through
 
rodents?

buy some peppermint oil online, put it in a spray bottle undiluted and spray it around all the openings on your Z and around the areas you think they would be inside the engine bay. They hate the peppermint scent as it irritates their noses.

Best part is that it will smell like Christmas for a bit, so no nasty chemical smells
 
Done that put stainless mess over air inlet into cab sprayed peppermint oil all over .thank god the running problem was faulty coil pack and not mice chewing wires somewhere
