Misfire on cylinders 2, 5 and 6

Started the car this morning and it was quite lumpy, then the EML light came on. Read the fault codes and 3 of the cylinders were misfiring. I was able to erase the codes and start it again giving it more throttle but I know that's a temp solution. Any ideas? Is it likely to be coils? I read somewhere that spark plugs don't register an error code, is that correct?

Sounds like coils to me - you could always swap the coils around ohm 1,3 and 4 to replicate the fault and confirm

Car started fine this evening and drove home from work ok. Read the error codes again, even though the EML wasnt on, and it was only showing a misfire on cylinder 5, so I assumed it would be coilpack on cylinder 5.....

However after unseating coilpack 5, and all others, using the method below to listen to the engine noise, it appears that all coilpacks are behaving how they should (i.e. unseating each of them resulted in a lumpier sounding engine).

Anything else that would result in a misfire error code? (Spark plugs? Fuel starvation? Low idle?)

Best bet would be to swap cyl 5 coil with number 4 and see if it returns after a drive.

On cold start with more than one misfiring it could the HVA's.

Swapped them and it drove fine, and no issues all week since resetting the EML. Remembered that the car hadn't been used in a week prior to Monday and it was a cold morning so maybe that combination just upset it.
