Driving along and then it just fell off and hanging down...

Unsafe to drive at the moment because I can't see anything out of it, it's just not attached any more and all I can see is the road.

Is this an easy fix? Anything I can order to quickly repair it? And anything in the interim I can use? I think it's normal, but after driving the mirror is very warm (are they heated?), I'm guessing perhaps it's eventually just worn away some glue.

remove the black cover under the mirror, place the mirror in place one again and the black plastic this will twist and lock it in place. you can see in the photo it has spun around.

you will need to you a screw driver to spin the plastic clip as they are quite stiff.

It just looks like you need to line the notches up and twist it back on. Photos in this thread should help:

Thanks for tips! Will have a go at fixing it tomorrow.

It's over a year old at the moment, still looks great. Saw the wrapper at the shop a few weeks ago when I was getting the bumper redone (someone hit me) and he said it's holding up really well as well.

Had the same happening to my left hand exterior mirror. Well it never fall off completly but was shaking when driving. I followed the instruction how to remove the glass from the bimmer link and applied loctite all around.
Not much was required, and never had one vibration since again :)

I got the black plastic bit off the back of the mirror, really struggling to reattach it. I put the removed black plastic bit in the mirror housing, and whatever I try as soon as I try to put the mirror in to lock it just falls back into the housing. Any videos showing how it's done?
