MINI to Z4

After many years as a MINI owner it looks like my latest MINI (2008 JCW) will be going and a Z4 will be coming.

Alwasy loved the Z4 and after doing some playing with figures it works out a rather nice saving too :).

The Z4 im looking at is a 56 plate but with only 13,000 miles, its a 2.5i Sport Auto (wanted auto), quite basic spec but looks stunning in Montego Blue. Rather than mod the car as such I think it will be more retro fitting, if poss.

Here is the MINI :)

ps Great Forum :)

Welocme  .... you'll enjoy the Z4 I'm sure........... mini/hot hatches are fun but the Z4 will be a totally different experience... nice colour choice..

I did the same. 2003 S Works to the Z4.

Funny, I just caught an old Top Gear on Dave last night with a review of the S Works. Great car, loved the supercharger whine.

my wife has a mini cooperS so i have the best of best worlds as i get to drive it. whenever i jump in the mini it is a completely different driving experience, it does feel almost as quick as my 3.0Z due to the supercharger kick. a lot less refined obviously, but dam fun.

needless to say the z4 is a nice cruiser, and great fun which i am sure you will enjoy !

Yep im looking forward to having a nice "cruiser" over the out and out raw power of the JCW, which produced 270BHP after a lot of time and money thrown at it. I do some work for a company called Coastal Racing who race MINIs, so I had no shortage of help getting bits done to the MINI. The good news is they know there way round a BMW so any bits that need doing can be done at the right price :).

As I said above I wont be moding the zed as such, maybe adding a few extras, bluetooth for a start :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, after having a look round on here it seems much the same as the MINI forums im on. I did have a vision of a forum full of snobs (sorry, I was wrong guys), but seems like a great place with some good banter too.

Hey popey - welcome.
I have a 3.0i auto and also my daughter has the later model Mini Cooper S. oth a lot. I drive them both. I think aside the change from front wheel drive to rear your going to find a big step down in performance of a 2.5 auto over the S. Personally I'd recommend the 3.0 on auto as that extra few horses and torque makes a big difference on the energy sapping auto.

Also make sure the one you get has a sport button as that makes a huge difference on auto remapping the shifts and firming them up as well as the usual stuff of reducing steering wieght, throttle response, etc.

Welcome popey, i recognise your name from mini2, wasnt sure what happened to that forum but when it got all political i stopped viewing it !

Like you ive had a fair few minis 6 in total lol

welcome to the forum.

I too used to have a mini one and cooper S which i traded in for the 3.0 Z4 coupe im in now.

The Z doesnt feel any faster than the tuned S i used to have but the power comes in a completely different way.

Hi Just changed from a mini to a Z4 coupe Auto. I get the impression lots of people are doing this

only a few, remember the coupe is quite exclussive

True I was getting a bit fedup of seeing minis. Not seen a Z4 coupe since we bought ours last wednesday

Its not so much power Im after now, its something to enjoy, almost relaxing after the JCW.

Many years ago I went from a highly moded Fiat Coupe to a 1.9 Z3, no power but I still loved it.

I have also got to consider the monthly saving too, both the HP and insurance, a 3.0 would be nice but the saving (if any) reduced.
