Oh dear:

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/bmw-recalls-235-000-minis-175817438.html

A couple of my friends who bought mini's last year are likely to be effected.

My daughter has one in that build range.
No big deal they find minor things like this and recall cars all the time.

What is the gearbox like CJ? I hear from owners that reverse particularly can be difficult.

Her first one was like stirring rice pudding, hunting for a gear and often beating the syncro and lots of backlash. Not sure if the first ower was hard on it or just a poor cog box.

The latest one that's a year old car seems perfect. Totally different - silent and smooth

Is her car the Cooper S? The problem is the second water pump for the supercharger.

Yes - it's the Cooper S.

Ill flag it up to her and am sure it'll be sorted by the dealer.

Your thinking of the first gen BMW MINI S's. They were supercharged, the second gen is turbo charged (and not as interesting!).

My wife has a second gen Cooper S and will probably be effected also.

Shame BMW wont do this on the new Z4 19" wheel cracking problem!

Confused Breaker? Her car is a second gen turbo and that's what the recall is about

ksher said supercharger hence the confusion.

Sure MINI's were on watchdog a while back for the same reason i.e. catching fire. Not sure if it's the same problem or not.

Sorry. It was my fault. Turbocharger, not supercharger.

"Owners will receive a letter in the next few weeks inviting them to have the water pump replaced at their Mini dealership in a process that is expected to take around an hour and will be free of charge. The company said that the turbocharged engine of the models affected by the fault are equipped with an additional water pump which draws residual heat out of the turbocharger after the engine has been switched off."

"Under high operating temperatures an electro-migration can occur at the circuit board installed in the additional water pump," it added.

"This can lead to a failure of the additional water pump or smoldering and even a fire cannot be excluded."
