Mini JCW Coupe (now here )

Thinking of getting a cooper s to replace the zed...

Gotta be a bit cheaper to run without killing me of boredem?

You're going to have fun in it still Woots ... More so than a Juke :-p I wouldn't be able to lose my gf off my tail when she's in hers and I'm in the zed unless the road really opens up. If anything, I wouldn't keep up on the country lanes round here.

Yeah I've ordered a new cooper s roadster but just discovered there's an ex demo JCW Roadster out at Elms Stansted. Only £40 more a month but that's all down to the difference in interest rate. So high on second hand, unfortunately, compared to the 1.9% offer they have on BTO

Car now arrived. Just short of two weeks owning now, have to say very pleased with the choice. Taking it easy for the first 1000 miles or so :D . I think I may be falling in love with driving again. For reference , White Silver JCW Coupe Red Roof and Mirror Caps , Black alloys , Black Leather piped in Red, and the active rear spoiler :D . I know this will be very Marmite, and cant compete with the E89 on looks but as a drive beats hands down.

Strong engine with great torque as the turbo is very linear
Fantastic grip. Handling is rock solid providing high cornering G with zero fuss
Huge boot
Good MPG
Sport button actually does something in terms of adjusting performance and opens an exhaust flap for a rorty exhaust note
Dramatic styling

Dislikes
Ride is a bit clattery
Engine is rough and many owners have had problems with timing gear faults, idling issues, fuel sensitivity (97 RON) engine lights and coking up
The low roof line makes it cramped and VERY uncomfortable for me at over 6'2"
Interior rattles

It's an easier car than the Z4 to run across country on challenging A / B roads and I would back the S to see off all but the most talented driver in more powerful cars. But TBH I don't like it and actively avoid driving it because of the cramped seating position for me lack of refinement. The Cooper S is definitely a hot hatch feel rather than sophisticated sports car and a completely different experience to the Z4. I haven't driven a JCW but reports are that it's even more hard core but I have a horrible feeling that I would tire of it quite quickly. But if it's your thing I can't think that much would keep up with it :)

Quick update on the rough cold idle, noisy timing gear and gruff engine note - all cured with a new high pressure fuel pump and belt idlers (not 100% sure which ones) under warranty. Now smooth and far quieter actually liking it now even if I don't really fit
