Decided to trade in my Mercedes S320 CDi today and found a nice Mini to replace it with just about all the options that are available fitted i.e. Chilli, Media package, external JCW aero sports trim, rear PDC, auto start / stop, brake energy regeneration (whatever that is!), electric folding mirrors, electric panoramic glass roof, seat heating, fogs with LED daylight running lights, adaptive Xenon lights, additional spot lights, enhanced bluetooth package, DAB radio, full leather interior etc.

Looking forward to collecting it on Monday!

[PS I blame OG!!]

Not really a Mini, more of a midi thesedays, we had a 2011 Cooper S Clubman, pointless in everyway but bloody awesome to drive

We had one for a while until our daughter needed to learn to drive and it just wasnt insurable for a 17 year old.

More of a Golf really, but sure very footed, and perhaps a little aggressive to drive, but good fun and well built.

Enjoy !

Heads-up display? traffic camera assist? Harman Kardon?

my mom bought a fully loaded Mini Cooper S last year, with the exception of harman/kardon. awesome cars!

Heads-up etc probably not an option in 2011? Anyway, it has enough toys for me to play with. :)

Brake re generation David , your E89 should have that ? easier to copy & paste than try to explain

"Make use of every watt: by charging the battery only when your BMW is braking, coasting or decelerating, Brake Energy Regeneration improves fuel efficiency by up to three percent and ensures that the full power of your engine is available for acceleration.

Today's vehicles require much more electrical energy than older models, due to the much wider array of electric and electronic on-board comfort and safety systems. This energy is created by the generator (also known as the alternator) which converts the engine's power output into electricity. In conventional systems, the generator is permanently driven by a belt connected to the engine.

BMW's Brake Energy Regeneration operates differently: the generator is activated only when you take your foot from the accelerator or apply the brake. The kinetic energy that would otherwise go to waste is now used efficiently, converted into electricity by the generator and stored in the battery.

Producing electricity in this highly efficient way delivers an additional advantage: when you apply the accelerator, the generator is deactivated - so the full power of the engine can be directed to the drive wheels. Brake Energy Regeneration thus increases fuel efficiency while simultaneously enhancing driving dynamics. As a safety precaution, the Brake Energy Regeneration system monitors the level of battery charge and will, if necessary, continue to charge the battery even during acceleration to prevent a complete discharging of the battery "

Doesn't the alternator keep the battery charged when the engine's running anyway? :?

A fine choice sir! You won't regret it!
When I started to take everything out of the Merc and gave it a quick clean this afternoon, I really wondered as to whether or not I have made a big mistake. The S320 is a really nice car in immaculate condition and will be a bargain to whoever gets it next. Thought was as to the whether or not the fun of the Mini will compensate for the sheer luxury of the Merc? Too late now though as the deal is done and I paid them £1000 as a deposit!

So, I do hope that you're right and that I won't regret it :!:

I've had a couple of drives in it now and quite like it but decided that it needs a few mods!

Set of JCW 18" wheels with nearly new Pirelli P7 runflats on their way and should be here on Wednesday.

Booked in at Lohen's on 15th August for:

  • Manic Stage 1 ECU tune with Dyno before after (they reckon 225-230 BHP plus an increase in torque)
Set of uprated NGK spark plugs
    Eibach Pro-kit lowering springs (-30mm F & -20mm R)

Should be a bit 'more like it' after that. :D

Interested to see how you get on with the stage 1 remap. That's the one I'm thinking about. Are you getting the SPS switch too? I was thinking of that so I could remove all trace of the map when it was serviced.

I wasn't planning on it, but I'll discuss it with them on the day.

Good looking mini that

Nope. Not unless the battery has 'increased discharge' an alternator charging the battery means it's using more fuel and that's not efficent. It seems complete madness and it's the reason they've got batteries which are designed to be charged with brake regeneration and cost a small fortune.

OK! Thanks for that, luckily both my Mini & E89 seem to have this feature, although I still only get 25 MPG from the 35i!

Imagine how much less mpg you would get if the battery was being charged off an alternator that was running all the time  doing well at 25mpg. I'm doing 15.8mpg in my 35is

Honestly it's just a bit gimmicky to say all of their cars are 'efficent dynamics'. My E88 135i came with that sticker and I did have to scratch my head and the brakes regeneration was the only thing it had.
