Minging bonnet and alloys - advice please

Happy Friday All,


Recently bought an 03 E85 3.0i.

Love it, had a few maintenance bits done and some other TLC, and now I'm ready to turn my attention to some bodywork woes.

Please see photos below:

I have no idea what's happened to the bonnet. I think someone tried to repair some cracking paint with a clear coat and it went wrong, then looks like it's attempted to be scratched off...

The alloys are a mess. The styling is amazing, and I'd love to have them look how they should.

Any advice for what I should do? I'm thinking cheap respray, haven't managed to find any 2nd hand bonnets that look decent so far.

Is it also just worth buying all new alloys, or can these be salvaged for a palatable cost?

Is it Sterling Grey?
I have a bonnet that has a small scratch in one front corner that I think a smart repair could sort.
In the interests of forum support you can have it if you can fetch it from Norfolk.

Re. wheels go on FB and search for a chap named Simon Ireland. He refurbishes these types of wheels all the time It’s a sort of give me your wheels +cash and have these wheels kinda deal

It's a terrible decision to have to make tbh................. a Sunday morning run to Briston for a coffee with you lot, or 10 days on the beach in St Lucia?
A lot of soul-searching went into it and in the end I decided it would be rude to leave Vall to go on her own.

A lot of soul-searching went into it and in the end I decided it would be rude to leave Vall to go on her own.

Where are you booked?
We are doing Sandals Halcyon. People say it's expensive but Vall dives and it's included so that is £2k+ clawed back.
Last year she went out as a volunteer for a month, teaching kids to swim as part of a sports charity. Met loads of great people so this time we will be spending time with the locals which gives you a much better appreciation of the place.

Sheesh that bonnet is in such bad condition you might as well try repainting it yourself, youve got nothing to lose! And a bonnet is probably one of the simpler things to flat back and repaint, surely.

Same with the wheels, id dissassemble them and rattle can them too. But then im not one for 100% cosmetic perfection, my last z4 was a track car, only had to look vaguely passable from 6ft away.

Unless you can find a cheap bonnet in the same colour In good condition, you may as well respray what you have.

The wheels are 108s and can be refurbed but they have to be split and they are prone to corroding again around the bolt holes. They are one of the best looking wheels though

How easy is it for a very simple mechanical ability man such as myself to fit a new bonnet?

By the time you pay for the bonnet and the postage (£220) you might be better off getting the existing one painted. Or be patient and wait for the right second-hand one in the same colour to appear somewhere near you so you can drive over and swap.
