Hi guys still searching.... ready for my long overdue return to the Z4 family - narrowing things down now and just looking at a couple of options - mineral white or alpine white and manual / auto or sports auto ? must be getting old - so many options not quite sure what's what - got a top guy at the dealers looking after me but he needs a "must have list" and in honesty I'm a bit lost - he tells me once I give him the list he can sort asap already he has brought through some stunning cars but I just want a 2nd opinion
I'm fancying :
Mineral White
Sports Auto : (is this flappy paddles)

what do you guys think ? :headbang:

Hi Badger, mineral white is more pearlescent than the brighter Alpine white.
I’ve got one, so I like it! :P

I had the same dilemma over mineral or alpine. Ended up getting mineral but really would have been ok with either. The mineral looks different in every picture i take.. catches the light in different ways. Pictures don't really do it justice. The colour gets quite a few compliments though. I've got another vehicle (alpine white) and for whatever reason the mineral makes me look back over my shoulder when walking away in a way the alpine doesn't. Might just be the fact the other car isn't a zed though. Lol

You can see in the pics below of the same car that the mineral colour can look completely different depending on the time of day, brightness of the sun etc. I've even got pics where the car looks silver! But yeh, both colours are great, I'd suggest you go for the one that's got the better spec and snap it up tbh.

That mineral white is very sharp. I am surprised that there is enough selection to even specify the exact color and or other options. My experience was to jump on the one in the best condition and the lowest mileage with six cylinders and DCT. When I called the seller he said, "if you see it you will buy it", and he was right.

Thanks guys think it's the mineral white then (if I can find one) gearbox auto or manual I'm looking at the 2.0i m sport - hope to be posting pictures soon :D

I had the both the same dilemma's as you. I ended up opting for mineral white with coral red interior and a DCT box. As has been said mineral white looks stunning in sunlight. With regard to DCT, I absolutely love it. So much so that when I subsequently upgraded my 1 series I didn't even consider a manual.

On colour choice it's to do with what engine and spec you want. We wanted a 3.0 so had no option but to go for alpine white as it pre-dates mineral. Even with 3.5iS the colour choice is low if you want a low miles car. Alpine white is a good colour and one thing that might not worry you now but might in the future is its ability to be touched in and resprayed with virtually no evidence of having done so. Try doing that with mineral white (or orange/red/silver) it will have to be the whole car if you want a colour match.

The muppet that had my car previous to me had some sort of damage to the front bumper and I think had it repaired by a cheapo bodyshop, or tin of paint from Halfrauds....it's Alpine White and there is a difference in shade! Not "immediately" obvious and only in certain light, but once you know its there....

My local BMW approved bodyshop told me there are about 7 different shades of Alpine White!

Mineral White is so much nicer than Alpine! (I have Alpine :headbang: )

Any 20i auto should be the ZF 8 speed with paddles... superb gearbox that transforms the car imo. It can be focussed and rewarding or sedate and relaxing.

I haven't seen a mineral white in the flesh, but do like the images I've seen.

Alpine white is such a wrong name....when mine was covered in snow it didn't blend in!

My wife and I spent a lot of time looking at SLKs and didn’t consider a Z4 until one turned up at a local dealer. It was in Mineral white with coral red interior. We went to see it loved it a brought it! We were sold on the colour and have had lots of great comments when we’ve been out.

I have to agree that pearlescent white is better than the solid. But equally I know that Alpine is easy to match as I bought a can of touch up (made at Halfords) and it is exactly the same..... You just can't do that with pearls - form experience. And even though Alpine white is actually nearly a cream (if you put it next to a bright white) it does look good with Coral leather

Here's a pic of where mineral white almost looks silver. So many different shades depending on the light and what device you take the pic with.. and sometimes it's just pot luck!

Sorry for the delay guys on coming back to you !
the car I had in my sights was sold ! gutted -
however I have found one again here is the spec -

1.8i - M sport - Sports Auto Gearbox - 49k miles (Sept 2014) has 19" alloys Alpine white with red leather - with a bit of jiggery pokery and a good trade in from my 3 series touring I should be able to get into this for about £7500 ? (List is £14350)

What do you guys think ?

It doesn't have heated seats or cruise control ?

Did I read somewhere the 19" alloys were prone to cracking ?

Help ?

Its on the BMW approved used site (reg is LN64FSC)

It all depends on what you want from a car.
The 18i is the lowest powered of all the E89s and without heated seats or cruise it doesn't sound that great.
Its not particularly low miles either, I would keep looking for a better one.
