Don't feel you have to part with money to sort this- you don't need to splash out on detailing products if you're like me you will have everything you need already

Think i'de start with smokers and work my way down to baby's first  - starting to think both of us are taking the P now!

Any rubbing compound or T Cut will do although AutoGlym do a pretty decent kit.
If you know anyone in the car paint trade, half an hour with a polisher & splodge of compound will do nicely!

Tried some toothpaste and autosolve tonight and I'd say the autosolve worked best

Worked best or worked quickest? Autosolve will be more abrasive than toothpaste (as will swarfega or those plastic beads in the girl friends exfoliating cream)

Any abrasive compound will do - in the thread I referenced in my first post I gave a number of options; and for the headlights I showed in the thread I started with 600grade wet and dry to get the crusty bits off then replaced the scratches that paper made on the surface with ever smaller scratches until they can't be seen. The more abrasive the medium the quicker you remove material but leave bigger marks - you takes your choice. I normally go from 2000 grade wet and dry (although I have been know to rub two sheets against each other before using them to give a finer finish) to 'T Cut' then to Mothers Polish - but only because I keep T Cut for polishing the edges of acrylic sheet which I use in another life and keep Mothers for the aluminium panels on my Caterham.

My point is you don't have to go and buy branded goods in all circumstances because Halfords or a detailing site say you need to. Save your money where you can and buy more petrol
