Miles per gallon figures

All manufactures are the same, my Fiesta does 39 mpg and Porsche 20-21mpg all on rural roads and nothing like the quoted figure's

Swap it for a G Whizz if youre worrying over mpg, you will never hope to achieve manufacturers claims :driving:

The lure of better fuel figures is the reason for buying a small engined Z4 tho? :?

Most cars, when driven very gently, can hit or exceed official mpg figures. However, "gently" is so far from normal driving that you're likely to make a nuisance of yourself on the roads

Our 2003 3.0 simply reads 31.7 mpg..has done for a couple of months with mostly motorway driving, 6th gear, motorway speeds, plus the odd 0 - 60 blast at the Severn bridge tolls....best part of the journey ;-)

Took my 23i on a long drive recently.
Motorway 60-70 was showing steady 50mpg.
80 starts to drop to 45mpg.
Usually settles at 47 on A roads.
Lucky if i get 30 commuting.
Definitly a Autobahn car!

40+ mpg at 70

That was driving thro Holland - It all went to hell in a handcart when I crossed into Germany. 2000 miiles of mixed driving the reading showed 32mpg - But fuel consumption wasnt why I bought a 3.0l six. :D

30mpg is OK I reckon, if that's what you were getting before, you have more power now than you had. Got no chance of achieving BMW's figures.

Cute moggy, is he/she a Bengal?

Nice to know others are getting the same results, thought it was me. Yes there is more power which equals more fun but really BMW should be more up front than they are.Still wouldn't swap it.

PS The moggy is an Egyptian Mau which is the cat the pharaohs kept as temple cats and worshiped. Nanu (Egyptian slang for beautiful) is a silver but we also have a bronze version Cleo.

Thanks for aqll the feedback guys. Fabulous as usual.

Just pushing the discusion further how much does using the sport mode reduce the figures as this is definately the best set up and a lot more fun. Even sounds better with the top down.

2.8i and mine just has 1K on the clock and I average around 25 around town but was getting nearly 40 when I went down the M1 the other week.Coming from a 120d its been a bit if a shock how often I am going to the petrol station .

Checked the motorway figures yesterday for my 2003 3.0l auto

300 mile round trip all motorway, fairly clear roads and aircon off.
Outward leg with cruise set at 80mph - 32.8mpg
Homeward with cruise set at 75mpg - 36.8mpg

I just couldn't bring myself to try it at 70mph

If you have a turbo you will be "on-boost" for the majority of your driving......

From experience its the other way around !
The majority of time its off boost and its only when the throttle is opened the boost comes on.

Saab used to fit a gauge in the corner of the dashboard showing vacuum or pressure and light throttle showed depression in the manifold and as the throttle was opened, depression moved to positive pressure.

The majotrity of time, say cruising at 70 (ish) you will be nowhwhere close to any boost.

I tend to get about 38 cruising on motorway at 70. Over the course a full tank I'll get about 32-33 with probably 60/40 split between A14/M6 vs town driving.

I've done about 400 miles in my 2.8 Auto since I got it, mainly on country roads and a bit of city driving and i'm averaging about 25-26 mpg. Granted since its new i've been a bit heavy footed, but i've almost given up on trying to get good mpg, now i'm just enjoying the car.

i get around 25.9mpg according to obc, done a 200 mile drive once and got upto 45mpg :driving:
