That's phenomenal what maintenance has been done to keep it running?
More or less everything has been replaced with the exception of gearbox, bonnet, roof and seats.

First few years (up to 100k miles) it wasn’t covered under a BMW Insured warranty, then it was down to me to pay for repairs/maintenance.

It’s had about 4 oil services every year, inspection 1/2 every year, a few accident repairs, lots of brake pads & tyres (although I get 20k rear and 40k front out of the Michelin PSS), clutch & flywheel at 140k. It wasn’t also treated to new suspension all round at about 130k (Bilstein B16/PSS10), a Gruppe-M intake and Rogue Diablo exhausts.

If you use it, it will need ongoing maintenance, but the clutch & flywheel was the only unexpected bill.

Mines on about 41.5k, had it 5 years this December, bought it with 23k on the clock.
Last week had the best driving days so far, its abilities far exceed mine, performed impeccably without fault :driving:

It looked great I’m my rear view mirror :driving: :P

Rear view mirror

See you haven’t mentioned the other rear view you also had the pleasure of :P

114k.
Bought nearly 3 years ago with 96k on it.
Apart from usual tinkering & normal service (oil filters tires pads etc) I’ve done:
Valve adjustment last year
Rod bearings this year.

New battery coming up!

What was it when you bought it ?

The same!

I've driven both the MR (and the Alpina) no more than about 3-4 miles each around the block!

(p.s. there again, I bought my E31 840Ci Sport over 12 years ago with 25K on the clock and it still has only 27K on it now!)

Not really although want to get the shells done soon as my paranoia is increasing. :(

My problem is I think it's a journey to England to get it done or go the local dealer (60 miles).

I change the oil every six months (castrol edge) and then six months after get either an inspection 1 or 2 in rotation at the dealer again using edge and not helix. Never go above 3k until warm but need to start thinking about those shells.

Not meaning to be rude, but what is the point of you owning them if you never drive them ?

A question I often ask myself!

I do drive the 3.0Si quite a bit though.

In truth, I suppose I bought the other two just because I couldn't think of anywhere else to put the money without it just depreciating sitting there in a bank. I'm not very imaginative!

Cars are for driving if you can get away with only a small amount of depreciation then great . If you make money even better but these cars were made to.be driven. Just my opinion mine is a daily driver and I love it.

Bought at 50k this spring and now on 53k......I really need to try and use it more. I've spent too much time on the Internet and am wondering about getting the bearing shells done. I'm the 7th owner so have no idea how it's been treated previously.

TBH unless the car has been tracked I wouldnt worry with the milage. If your driving it spiritedly and letting it warm up with good oil service intervals I wouldn't worry until it get up to 75-80k. As swapping the bearings is a big job and the car is 10 years old it doesn't make sense just having them done. I would have engine mounts done also as they are rubber and one is right next to the heat shield and the likelihood is they will need doing sooner than later because of age. Also the engine bolts as they are another weak point, those three probably £1500.

The other thing you can do is have a quick look with a strong torch you can just about see the engine mounts on the right hand side, you can get a good idea on their condition if they dont look perished then I would leave it and just increase the time frame of oil changes, once a year would be fine.

Other than that there isnt really much to worry about once all the above is done shouldn't need any major engine consumable work for the next 10 years
