Mileage OCD

ive covered about 12k in my zed in the year ive had it but because im careful i think its in better condition now than when i got it (refurbed wheels, machine polished paint etc)
They are built to last so i try not to worry about the mileage to much, prices are low enough on these cars now so i dont think the value is going to plummet much further.
Great cars to drive :driving:
regards

My 2004 3.0SE is going in this week for it's 2 year oil and brake fluid change - mileage is 29300 - while it's in I'm getting the drains checked - my plan is to use it more on a daily basis - I've had it over 2 years and covered only 600 miles

The idea is to overcome my OCD about keeping such a low mileage - I'm having the drains checked because God forbid I might even drive it in the rain sometimes

My 2004 3.0SE clocked 26885 today, It's going in for a 2 year oil, brake fluid change & MOT on the 20th April .... I've clocked up 700miles since last MOT.. :o

I also need to get out more too :o :driving:

If i only drive my cars when there is no clouds in the sky, there would be maybe 10 days per year suitable weather here..

Jonny, with the best will in the world, your car is never going to qualify as a low-mileage car - it's already been driven the equivalent of one-and-a-half times around the world.

Keep it nice, keep it clean but, for God's sake, don't be scared to drive the bloody thing or what's the point in owning it?

Surely the only real desirable cars in the future will be low milage top of the range cars anyway?
No disrespect to Jonnys car as I do not own a top of the range car either but I wouldnt think ours will ever really be sought after in the future when there are models with bigger engines/higher spec/standard cars out there.

I have done 10 thousand miles since August and have really give it some stick. The car seams to accelerate harder and feels much more enjoyable to drive now compared to when I first got it. However I really do love spending a Sunday treating it to a nice wash. Just spent a £100 on cleaning products the wife thinks am nuts lol.

I actually see both sides here. I just had my car detailed and I'm terrified of driving it now, as it'll never look this good again, as soon as I take it out it'll begin to get mucky and the wheels will build up with brake dust, splatter marks etc. So I can either sit and stare at it, and have a very expensive good looking driveway ornament or I can get a grip and enjoy what I've earned to pay for.

I've got that little voice in my head saying "keep it low mileage, don't drive it, every time you drive it you're losing money on resale in the future, be that guy who has one of those cars that everyone wants" but I know for a fact it's ridiculous. Are you really going to make enough of a profit from it to justify never enjoying it? And after cherishing it for long enough to make a justifiable return, could you ever face selling it 10, 20 or 30+ years from now?

But I definitely understand JE's aggressive stance towards other people working on his car. If there's one thing I can't stand in this world it's the TV show Sex and the City, closely followed by other people damaging my property.

First rule of Z Club is you don't tell them about how much you spend on cleaning products!

Surely this thread is about anal retentiveness rather than OCD.

From WIKI - Anally Retentive - to describe a person who pays such attention to detail that the obsession becomes an annoyance to others, potentially to the detriment of the anal-retentive person.

It's a depreciating asset. Drive it, fix it when it breaks and keep it in good condition but drive the bloody thing as you're not getting the enjoyment out of it that myself and others on the forum here get.

Exactly , stuff the re sale and enjoy it , more than a few people criticised me when I said I washed mine with fairy liquid once a year , but I bet I enjoyed it driving down to San Sebastián , Biarritz back up to the ring and down to the dordogne more than they did washing it with overpriced cleaning products and taking a pic to post on here .
I sold the car for a thousand quid less than I paid for it and covered just under ten thousand miles in 9 months , but I enjoyed it , there's more to life than money for me .
Each to their own though , it just seems to me people are missing out on a lot by worrying about re sale value .

I will try......next year lol
This isn't the reason that you backed out of the England/Wales meet weekend-after-next, is it?

Worried about putting a few hundred on the clock and having to drive on the motorway to get there?

Perhaps another reason why I should take it out more - in 30 years time I will be 96

There's nothing more certain than anything powered by an internal combustion engine will face more and more regulation in the coming years. Anybody bet against these wonderful contraptions being banned from the road at some point in the (increasingly near) future? Use it whilst you've got it, then you can tell tales to your grandchildren about hitting the rev limiter in 3rd and hearing that engine howl.... :driving:

Just taxed mine today another sneaky rise £290. They don't want these cars on the road.
Road tax is a lot more than insurance

Exactly. Since day 1, my Z4 has been my daily driver. I've never understood the "Sunday-only car" philosophy. Only on really stormy days or when hauling stuff/taking the dog to the vet do I drive my SUV. Life is for living. It'll be tits up soon enough for us all, so drop that top and enjoy your rare status of owning such a beautiful and capable motor! I've enjoyed putting every mile on my Z4, and often take the long way home, to savor the moment.

 To the pair of you.

I try and limit my mileage when it comes to commuting and take the van/bike where possible.. but fun miles - sod it, the more the merrier. I'm on about 48k and counting of which I've done about 15 in 3 years which is piss poor as an effort - but then I've been away from home for 3 weeks out of 4 for the most part
