I had a 4.0 V8 XK8 a few years a go. It was a lovely lovely thing but by christ it was thirsty. If you booted it in sport mode the MPG would go down to 4. I bought a little citroen to eat up the miles economically and reduce the mileage being piled onto the Jag. After two years of maintaining/taxing/mot'ing/insuring a second vehicle I broke even (accounting for the depreciation and extra running costs that I would have incurred with the jag). I wish I hadn't bothered to be honest.

My 2006 Z4MC is on 150k miles, but I'm sure the 500 mile a week motorway trips are doing no more harm to the car than 150 mile weekend hoons, Ring trips, or 20 mile, pothole-ridden town trips.
Sure, you will see higher maintenance/fuel/insurance costs, but you'll know the car is mechanically good and well serviced.

Mine was on 34k when I bough it in June 2015, its now on 53k. I intend to keep it forever
so the miles will climb way past 100k. I'm not bothered about resale value, I just want it to last forever When its a 'high-miler' I will find it comforting to know that I've put on the vast majority of those miles

But it is misguided.
The cheaper the vehicle is (i.e. the more it has already depreciated) the less difference the increasing mileage will make on its resale value. I bought my Z4 for £6k at 38000 miles and 10 years old. Even if I do 50k miles in it over the next three or four years (which I have every intention of doing) it will have no further effect on the residual value that it will then have had it just sat in the garage.

Cars that are at high mileage seldom if ever make classic status. They generally go to the scrap heap much quicker than low mileage cherished cars, but I say to everyone please pile on the mileages on your cars as that will make mine a more desirable proposition when I come to sell it. The over 100k milers are sold cheaper for a reason, not that there will necessarily be problems but the law of averages would state there are more likely to be. Around 5k a year I would say is a nice mileage for any potential purchesers. There were hundreds of high mileage ones when I was looking but I waiting until a good low mileage one appeared.
Drive it! The less you use it the less miles you put on it and the more you'll be concerned about putting any more miles on the clock.
I got my Zed last month to replace my Focus RS which had just made 198.5K miles.
If it had sat in my garage and done about 20K it would have been worth four times as much as I got for it but I got four times as much fun as some other owners
In fact I think the mileage as my daily driver helped - it was still on first clutch and exhaust. Driven but not thrashed only had the rev limiter cut in three times in all those miles! You only have to read posts on here to find problems of cars standing to periods of time. Anyone who runs two cars knows that at some point you have to make a decision about where to spend money and its always the daily driver that gets first call - you end up putting off work on the weekend cars to save the daily one - (took me a year to get time and cash to do the diff in my seven) always the risk of that happening to a Zed which is the nonessential car.

In all honesty, thank you all else for the advice. I've done the maths and owning another car doesn't add up. I'd probably break even in savings vs. depreciation and if I'm being honest, I'd rather be in a straight six RWD coupe breaking even than sat in a little crap box.

My own intention was to match Benny's mileage eventually as he was supposed to be a direct replacement for European taxi duties, but i'm not using the roadie atm - been given a nice little runabout by a client to use for a couple of months, including petrol and unlimited mileage! Would have been rude to refuse it. lol
106k on the roadie currently, less than halfway in matching Benny's 261k. The countdown begins......NOW

People say oh you're losing money and devaluing it, or you could have something more economical, although it is capable of doing 30mpg on a run (not that I ever see that!) but you only live once, so f**k it!
It's a CAR, and I bought it to drive it.
