The issue is that we are the "Promised Land". Its far too easy to play our system and get the handouts, hence why they dont want to stop in France , etc.
What I dont understand is how this " being in Europe " nonsence works. I'm an electrician by trade and recall a few years back when we had to change the good old Red & Black cables for Brown & Blue to "harmonise" with Europe. (We have one of the safest electrical systems in the World, yet change to follow others!) They say change and we do, as it all has to be uniform ! Well how come everything isnt uniform across Europe ? It seems that us being in Europe means that we do what we're told and every other F*****r does what they please !
Migration & Immigration figures get quoted by the Govt as a net movement of +260,000 (inward) for example with 240,000 leaving the UK per annum and 500,000 entering ( *not exact figures), so not too bad really - "just" a +260,00 gain !!!
What they dont include in their statistics is that the 240,000 leaving are mostly successful 40% tax payers who are moving for a better lifestyle, better climate and to pay less Tax elsewhere. The 500,000 coming in are mostly unemployed or low paid immigrants, washing cars, driving taxi's and labouring on building sites etc who take more out of society financially than they put in.
This is why the infrastructure cant support it all. I wonder what the average UK citizen costs society by expecting the services of schools, libraries, hospitals, Police Forces etc ? Whatever it is, I would suspect that the tax paid on a £15k annual salary isnt enough and that the break even point would be nearer earnings of £25k to £30k minimum . Therefore if those leaving the UK are the bigger earners and Fat-cats, the low paid immigrants just arent going to balance the books.
I agree that the Poles and Romanians, etc may be prepared to work when the get here, but I suspect that with the first £10k of earnings tax free and then 20% tax on the remaining 'declared' earnings of £5k isnt enough,to pay back the Govt, especially taking into account the additional Child benefit, Tax Credits and free school dinners, etc they all receive. ( and the fact they seem to like 'cash' industries...)
I'm not against immigration (honestly !) but at the end of the day we are an Island with limited space and food resources. Match those going out with those coming in on a decent points system and I'm all for it.
Yes the pictures are sad, but on a smaller scale, you could house and support 15 immigrants in your 3 bed semi, and the UK is the same, just on a larger scale.
