Mid week drive, just for the heck of it

Posted in wrong section - mods can you please move to E85/86 discussion instead of "problems"? Oops. Ta

Ok, so took my new zed for a mid-week drive, just for the heck of it. She's still filthy from the weekend, but will wash and take some proper pics on Saturday or Sunday.

Was a real pleasure learning to drive smoothly, and I can drive without the typical kangaroo from 1st to 2nd gear many owners speak about. The gearbox is a lot tighter than my old 3.0i, and the savage clutch, once you're used to it, feels great. It's an acquired sensation, but I love it.

Still not had some dry roads to feel the full thrust of 2nd gear yet without traction cutting in somewhere in the rev range

A few observations/comparisons from old to new zed:
1. It feels like the throttle pedal is mapped more aggressively than "sport" mode in my 3.0i (don't get be started about sport mode - totally pointless. I might change my mind about that later though  ).
2. LSD is a delight
3. It's very difficult to drive slowly
4. I need to find that thread about DSP settings. I listen to house music, and it's tricky finding a setting that covers multiple tracks at optimum bass levels, and as a former DJ I consider myself reasonably competent at EQ settings, low/high pass filters etc etc. My last zed had 3 DSP settings and they were nearly perfect. This Logic 7 will need practice.
5. Lower rev pickup was, I think, slightly quicker in the 3.0i. However, with the S54, once the thrust kicks in, it would leave my 3.0i behind.

I think the 3.0i is a much easier car to live with. However, I didnt change cars for an easy life. Really looking forward to putting some more miles in this weekend.

Honestly don't know how some examples are garage queens. These cars are built to be driven 8)

I can help with the DSP thread.

Not much need for the sport button on the ///M  I tend to only switch on once moving. Used to use it on the old car to increase steering weight more than anything.

Nice one. Strangely I'd tried the 80 & 200 combo in reverse to cancel some of the low end drone, but will give this a go at the weekend

glad yr enjoying the m adamski, have you found that dsc over nannies and dumps revs too much ? turn it off and really enjoy that diff, amazes mehow it gets the power down, even In the wet. :driving:

Still getting used to the extra 113 horses. I'll work my way up to turning the DSC off. Bit nervous about turning it off so soon on wet roads

i would love to drive the M, it must be a rocket ship :driving: i went from a tuned Jap car to the Z4 3.0i and i still can't stop smiling with the performance it gives. just cant get my head round the fact of putting another 113 bhp on top of that

Some great posts so far Adam, keep 'em coming

I do love the way none of them are in the M specific section - true to the Z not the M

Adamski, aside from the DSP settings, you've listed what is the definitive list from popular made-up-book-in-my-mind, 'My First Days driving an M'.

I had exactly the same experience when driving my first M from pickup in Staffordshire, cross country to Suffolk. The clutch, the unrealised speed, LSD, comparison to the 3.0i and the pointlessness of the sorts button (IMO creates a false power that isn't required as its already there and you just need to leaner how to use it better).

Glad you're enjoying. Just wait until you get her out on those dry, summer roads :driving:
