Mid range tyre recommendations

I've gone with Toyo Proxes Sport, replacing my Vredistiens. they don't look as "square" but the grips is great all round and they are way quieter, especially on the awful part of the M25 near J10-13.

Can I ask how much mileage you got out of the Vredesteins? Mine have been on for about 1000 miles and was wondering what to expect. Great tyres, though

I recently replaced my Vred Ultrac Sessanta rears with GY F1s, which are proving to be absolutely fine and definitely much quieter.

I put 9k on mine before I sold the car, rears were on 4 to 5mm across the tread fronts on 6

I personally use GYEF1s also although I wouldnt class them as mid range tbh

Mid range for me would be the likes of Kumho/Toyo/Yokohama/Hankook
Admittedly my knowledge here is old but
Kumho - good but softer so less life
toyo - good but not great in wet and softish

I used to always use Toyo Proxes T1R but they went through a redesign and I found the sidewalls to be a bit too wobbly for my liking when youre "on it" but they were really really good all rounders if less good in the rain.

I would 100% back the GY Eagle F1s though

That's good to know. They were measured all round at 7mm last week on it's MOT.

I just put a set of 18" Kumho Ecstas on my Z4 and after just 100 miles am pretty pleased with them although it hasn't been wet yet, but they are rated A for wet grip so I'm not expecting any issues.

They'll definitely be better than the 19" MPSSs I removed when it's cold and wet! And they are much smoother and quieter crossing cats-eyes, as well as on that abysmal concrete section of the M25. :(

I think some on here reckon 255/40 rears help with ride - I went a step further because OE on my MC was 255/40 but I bought 255/45s! They certainly fill the arches.

On your economy question I don't know about a 2.5 Z4 but my E46 325ti (M54 engine like the pre-faclift 2.5i) averaged 32.7mpg over the 23K miles I had it and my E91 325i (Facelift N52 2.5Si engine) averaged 33.8mpg for 7K miles - but I stopped commuting a while ago and avoid rush hours whenever possible!

Hmmm.. I got mine with my wheels and they had around 4mm on them and with that I got around 20k I think, but I'm not terribly hard on tyres. I probably had a little more left, but I had the cash and really should have changed them a while back. The Toyos have significanlty taller blocks, so there is a little squirm under hard cornering, but they are way quieter.

The Vredesteins looked great though!

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy here. Great value and most importantly for me (after grip) is that they're comfortable. They're generally regarded as having a compliant ride. So yep, Goodyear gets my vote.

+1 I have previous gen Eagle F1 Assy, excellent and work just fine in Somerset :D
