Or to those who've been in the IT biz long enough, Windows Me2...

What a bloody abomination. I just dragged an old Dell notebook out of storage to try installing my OBD cable on a 32 bit OS. Just about every part of it wanted to update. I powered it on 2 hours ago and it's just about booted cleanly now after much fanning about. Holy crap it's awful! No wonder so many businesses stayed on XP.

Rant over. Now breathe...

Tried it a few years back and backed it out straight away. Final straw was when iTunes wasn't compatible. :headbang: assume they've fixed that in the intervening years but I won't be rushing to upgrade (?) anytime soon.

Have fun, my laptop with the BMW software on went wrong the other day, I formatted it (windows xp) then reinstalled xp, upgraded to vista the upgrades to windows 7 32bit took all day and night before laptop had all software on!!!!

Vista is an abomination.

Got Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop. Granted it's got a Quad Core processor and 8GB of RAM to get it to run acceptably 8)

Vista was the worst ever.
XP had everything I needed, and I didn't have to have a ferrari to run it. Windows 7 is a mac wannabe program that needs more memory than a herd of elephants, and more processing power than NASA have.
I could run XP fast on 512mb Ram. Windows 7 needed 4GB to do the same. Why? :headbang:

Thanks Mark, but I have an XP setup and license. If I cant get the diagnostics running on this I'll stuff a new HDD in the laptop and do a virgin XP install. What a PITA this is turning into.

Tonight's amusement, fitting a new hdd and a virgin XP Pro install. *sigh*

If anyone is coming to the Cotswolds meet and has a cable I'd really appreciate being able to check it on my laptop. Will also send a note to BMW Cables and see what they say. Probably "sod off nobber" but worth a try
