Michelin SS v PS4

I will need new rears later on this year and was looking at either Super Sports or PS4's - reviews say the PS4 is significantly better than the SS. Have forum members found this to be the case in the real world for every day driving, definitely not tracking the car.
 
SS nicer in the summer, PS4 much better in the winter. Think PS4S may be available in 18s now?

This. The SS are lethal in the cold, but really hold in on summer!
 
When I bought my M it had a mix of Goodyear Eagles and a Pirelli P Zero. I switched all 4 to Michelin Pilot Sport 4's and had the alignment done and it totally transformed the driving experience of the car. I would highly recommend the PS4's. I do not believe the S variant is available in 18" (or they weren't when I bought mine a few months ago).
 
Really can't fault the PS4 for everyday driving, I have them on my E350 Coupe.

I also have PS3 on my Z4M (PS4 weren't available at the time) and PS4S on my V8 Vantage, so have had a decent opportunity to compare them.
 
I still fit MPSS. There was no MPS4S available last set I bought. The SS take work to get the best out of them, but as my Zed is a weekend, dry road, toy I can usually get them working on a drive out. When they are not up to temp they are hilarious if not border line scary, if you try to push on in cold conditions. I enjoy that, like I enjoy rock climbing and enjoyed big wave surfing. If your not of that mind set then, from what I have read, the PS4 is the one to go for. But for me the feel and the control you have when they are working is the best I have experienced. :thumbsup: :driving:
 
When I picked my car up in December 2019 it had 19" CSL Reps and MPSS tyres.

It was a cold and drizzly day so I soon found out they are very exciting this time of year. T/C light was flashing on nearly every mini-roundabout! :roll:

Although mine is also only for special occasions I like to use it as much of the year as possible, so I'll try something else next time.
 
I have SS which have been great, and could even do light tracks like Nordschleife, but I hear 4S are the beez kneez and a step up, will prob be my next set!

If anyone interested rice of Michelin PS4's at costco until 24th Jan
225/40/18 £96.35 each fully fitted
255/35/18 £144.00 fully fitted
Total for 4 approx £480 less £80 promotion so £400ish for full set seems good value to me
Just trying to get some 325m wheels for mine to swap over wheels and get non runflats onto the car

Great price but note 225/45/18, 255/40/18 sizing for the M.

Ok so not an M but ps4's on e89 35i are 225/40/18 and 255/35 /18
 
SS’s spin up more easily than PS4/PS4S. It is the more playful tyre, but does not match the PS4/PS4S in regards to wet grip.

So in essence it depends on driving style, in terms of which you would prefer.

However it may be worth looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport as it is supposedly better than the offerings from Michelin.

Report here(18" tyres) its no 1 with good points
Good balance and easy to control with high levels of grip in the wet. Good aquaplaning resistance. Short dry braking distances, low noise and good comfort.
Pushed Michelin PS4 inti second place.

Now on my shopping list when can get the 325 m wheels that Im looking for to get rid of the runflat Bridgestones on my 35i

Great input, 2k35is.
Had older Assymetrics on my old car (Fiat Coupe) and even they have indeed been very good
 
I’ve just put a set of Goodyear F1 Supersports on mine and they are really good. They have quite stiff sidewalls, but offer great grip, even on cold, wet roads. They seem to have a pretty soft compound. I haven’t had any PS4S or SS, but did have PS2 and these felt like “narrow” like bike tyres when it was below 10 degrees for the first few miles.
