MICHELIN run-flats?

They're fiercely expensive, but has anyone tried MICHELIN run-flats?

Assuming you are looking at 18s OEM staggered ? Have you considered Hankooks ?
Reasonable money & high quality tyres
If you are made up on runflats i would forget the Bridgestones
Myself i would stick with 225 40 18 fronts but 245 40 rears on E89 Msport spec / approx £400 on a set of 4 delivered

Very interesting reply mrwilks - I will be needing new tyres on my E86 Sport (so staggered 18s) fairly soon, and despite what everyone says about non-RFTs I don't like the idea of fitting them without having some sort of spare.

I'm guessing you suggest 245/40s on the rear because they don't come in 255/35 size?

It's MICHELIN run-flats I'm interested in. :)

225/40 R18 88W Front
255/35 R18 90W Rear

Fair enough!

I think mrwilks replied as he did because of the words "Fiercely Expensive" in the first sentence of your message - to offer an alternative significantly cheaper!

Anyway, I haven't tried Michelin RFTs. Both my Z4s have been on the cr*p Bridgestones! I did have a 123d that had 4 sets of Pirelli RFTs and they were much better IMHO.

No its because the 245 40 rear looks better in the arch , rides better from the drivers seat & gives the wheel more protection

OK, thanks! Will bear that in mind when the time comes!

Why are Bridgestone run-flats so cr*p, I wonder?

Haven't improved with the time so old tech ?
Tbh i had them on a E89 in 18inch form & they weren't that crashy but grip in anything other than dry conditions was poor i thought :?
I also don't favour the 255 35 rear profile on a 8.5j rim :( 245 40 much more suitable for 99% of the time , jmo of course & others may disagree

I wish I knew - I know everyone says they were 1st generation RFTs, but my Z4 was registered in 12/06 and my 123d was registered in 09/07 so not much difference age-wise.

The Traction Control Light is on far more often in the Z4C than it ever was in the 123d this time of year (typically less than 10 degrees C and damp). I know the Z4 is more powerful, but the 123d had way more torque and only had 205/50x17 tyres.

All I have decided for sure so far is that whether I go RFT or not, when I do replace mine it won't be with Bridgestones!

I agree

Interesting read as I am in the USA. Mr Wilks provided a link to your Tyre Review site. At the site there is a very extensive test of the Bridgestone Drivegaurd. It got very favorable ratings. The USA version includes an all season version which I now have as a result of very favorable ratings on the Tire Rack website here in the states. The history of Bridgestone RFT and BMW is complicated. I like them because they have a high wear-life rating. The grip seems to be very good. I would not want to track an all season but they do stick, no tram-lining, good life, especially compared to the performance oriented Michelin and Pirelli. I went from 19" wheels and OEM tires which simply were not acceptable to the drivegaurd on 18" wheels and I am very happy after 16000 miles with a high % of that on mountain roads in all weather.
Evidently these tires have received a recent major updating and one must make sure they obtain the latest versions.
A very Merry and Blessed Christmas to all.
