Michelin PSS - Star symbol or not? 19" CSL sizes

Hi.

According to Michelin the OEM sizes has the star symbol (BMW approved) but the 235/35/19 + 265/30/19 does NOT have the star symbol.

What do you guys with CSL dimensions have?

Thanks!

/Filip

That's definitely the tyre size that csls came with from the factory Phil. Never heard of a 'star' symbol?? Are you expecting to find it on the tyre itself?

My 18" Michelin PSS have the stamp, logo or sign och what you would call it :)

You can also see the star on this pic

Since 265/30/19 & 235/35/19 fit a bunch of cars I'd be surprised if any MPSS you order from a tyre fitter will be the OE spec tyres that will come with your shiny new BMW.
MPSS as a relatively new tyre would never have been tested/approved for OEM use on a CSL or Z4M of course, I believe the only BMW approved option on the 19" CSL was the Michelin Cup (which is NLA).
Quite frankly I think the * symbol you're referring to is BMW's take on Porsche's rip off system whereby the car is not covered under warranty unless you buy their 'N' rated tyres. The exact same tyres as those without the little 'N' marking but for considerably more cash of course

I believe it just designates BMW OE spec with cars that were meant to run with them from the start (I.e. when you buy the car with them).
Yes you can buy 'starred' MPSS in a variety of fitments I'd imagine, but none of them would have been tested on a CSL wheel or 224 for that matter on a Z4M, it would be for a M135i or whatever that takes those tyre fitments these days. It's really not an issue on our cars due to them being around long before this kind of practice started.
I also don't think it's michelin conning the customer, it's BMW. Porsche has been doing this for a while. Similar practice occurs with OE spec Pirelli etc.

I worked for Pirelli Carlisle a few years ago and whilst the OEM tyres go through extra quality control they are made using exactly the same
machines, processes and materials as their other tyres

Running MSS on Oem CSLs the same sizes as you quoted
And a set of 275s sat waiting their turn;)
Highest Y rating and xl on mine

Only stars are at restaurants hahah

Interesting to hear. What were the extra quality control processes?

Quite why you'd want even more grip on the rear axle (relative to the front) I can't understand, but let us know how you get on with that....
