Just don't get too carried away with cold temperatures or slightly greasy roads. I am running PSS all round with 265 rears and they are absolutely terrible when cold and in wet/greasy conditions. You would honestly think you were driving on ice :thumbsdown: It is a completely different story once on track however and you get some heat into them. My last trackday was absolutely soaking, hammered it down all day and once up to temperature the grip was pretty incredible. You are never going to get the required heat into them on the road though so just be prepared when coming off roundabouts or out of junctions

I once had a set of Falken 452s like that when new, because the covering of "release agent" persisted for about 500 miles.

I don't understand though how you managed to get any heat into your tyres when the track was soaking. I use an infra-red thermometer to help me find the right geometry and tyre pressures, and when the road is wet, tyres don't get much higher than ambient temperature, whereas on the road I can get them to around 60 degsC and on track to around 80 degsC.

I can only put the grip down on track to the tyres having more heat in them. A drier line started to appear and it probably helped when my mate took it for a 'drifting' session. The track was by no means dry and I had little to no tyre wear at the end of the 4 hour session. With the traction control left on I could not get the rear end to squiggle at all. The car would only understeer. Completely different story on the road though. The rear end will try and overtake the front without much provocation at all.

See how you get on with them. I'd be interested to hear yours, and anybody else's, views on them as a wet/cold weather tyre.

First 5-10 miles in cold conditions and they can be a bit twitchy, but no more than any other tyre. After that they must warm up (if not heat up) to above road temp as the grip changes dramatically. After the first few miles I've had no issues, and whilst this winter has been mostly wet, I leave home at 5am on Mondays and the last couple of weeks it has started out at 1-5C. Last winter was colder and I ran these all through that without issue.
