MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT

Had a quick search but couldn't find an answer.
I'm going to replace the 19" RFT's on my 35i with MPSS or Vreds but can only seem to find them in "XL" form.
I want to try and protect my 326 wheels from cracking but understand the "XL" tyres have a similar sidewall to a RFT which is what I'm trying to get away from.

Can anyone who has swapped confirm whether their tyres are "XL" or not.

TIA.

I believe mine may be XL, however I can vouch for the fact that the sidewalls are much softer then the Runflats I took off which had sidewalls of concrete. You can feel it in the tyre and you can certainly feel it on the road. You really don't want soft sidewalls at 18/19" plus as there's so little rubber between that grate you just ran over and the tyre that it could split or damage the alloy for being too soft. The MPSS I have on are a nice in between.

Cheers for that Maniac....just done some further reading and looks like most tyres of that size are XL so I'm guessing that's what most guys who've swapped are running.

Xl means extra load required for bmw's. I've used Mpss on my old cars & there fantastic. Can't compare them with Vreds IMO. I never had any probs with alloys in 4/5 years using them on my old e86 & 335d. I've priced them for my new zed but can't justify the cost as my car in only a few months old but the Michelins will transform the car.

Hi,

fyi - I just got 4 Michelin PSS supplied and fitted from Blackcircles.com for £775. the paperwork doesn't mention if they are XL and i'm not near the car to check.

am i right in thinking the camskill price is just for the tyre and you need to find your own fitter?

Camskill price is just for the tyres and no fitting incl.

I expect they are extra load, that are the load ratings on your tyres? (should be 94Y or similar)

I've just priced up MPSS and the cheapest fitted price I can find is £766 at Halfords after 5.25% off with Topcashback.

That's for 235/30/19 and 265/30/19.

I got the following (different to your sizes Jim):

Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/35 R19 Y (88), Reinforced

Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255/30 R19 Y (91), Reinforced

235 front /265 rear will fit but they're not the stock sizes. I have the stock 225 35 19 front and 255 30 19 rear Michelin PSS.

Good to see you yesterday. Thanks for letting me have a go Jim and hope is wasn't too scary as it is your new baby. It's a lovely, lovely car, drives like new, and sounds great.  :driving:
