Having always had Goodyear Asymmetric tyres fitted last 10 years or more the Michelin's way better.
Driving today roof down i thought, hang about, no tyre road noise.
Only noise i could hear was probably air in the spokes of wheels.
They are listed as nosier than GY yet are silent.

I really noticed a difference in ride quality and lack of road noise when I fitted them to my cayman.

GY were always noisy, especially with wear. I think the inner compound was harder to get more life out of them.
Mich. might be softer and might not last as long. Don't mind though.

They are only available in two sizes for 17s. 205/40 and 205/45. The General Altimax RT 45 (available in many sizes) are a smooth and more quite tire and cheaper—-that’s what I run here in the US. But someone said they are not available in the U. k.
Of course the p5s are ultra max performance summer tires and the RT 45s are touring tires. Almost any touring tire is going to have a better ride and less noise than max. performance tire. ———-I was running the Continental Extreme Contact 06 plus which are a ultra high performance all season tire, they had a good rating for being a smooth/quiet riding tire, but for me not so much. My Generals handle comparable to those but wth a much more smooth and quiet ride. —-I’m sure the sport 5s would be a good choice for one of the best handling street tires having a decent ride, Mitchelins are hard to beat.

Some of the roads here in California are heavily chip sealed (not sure what that’s called in U.K.) and it makes for a noisy ride no matter what tire you have, Oregon also.
