Michelin or Goodyear for wear?

Rear tyre time.

I've had Goodyear Eagle Asy 3, been happy with them and they've lasted about 16 months and 16000 miles. 245, 40 18.

Could replace for £110 each or go for Michelin Pilot
Sport 4 for £120 a corner. Anyone be any experience with both? My calculations suggest is need to get 17500 miles out of the Michelins to make it worth while, all other things being equal. Sue I've read somewhere that Michelins out last other premium brands.

Currently have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on the Z4. Great tyre, and the grip in the wet or dry is excellent.

Previously had Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3.

Bearing in mind that the Goodyear were used on a twisty back road daily and the Michelin are mainly 8 minutes of motorway I'd recommend the Michelin.

Yearly alignment done on Hunter equipment.

The Goodyear lasted about 12,000 miles on the rears.

The Michelins haven't done 5000 miles yet.

The wear will all depend on how you drive it, the setup of the car etc.

How much mileage you get out of a tyre really depends on how you drive, camber/wheel alignment and what tyre pressures you run.

But in regards to wear, Michelin’s are regarded to last the longest out of the premium brands.

I’ve ran Pirelli P Zero, Bridgestone Potenzas and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and now the Pilot Sport 4 S; and it’s quite clear that the Michelin’s have worn the best by quite some margin.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the wear depends on many many factors but I should think for most drivers their style of driving, geo, pressures, usual roads etc won't change with a change from one premium tyre to another.
Looks like Michelin might be worth the small extra outlay. Think I'll go for them, if for no other reason to see what I think and how long they last for me.

I was the same when I was changing the Goodyears.

The local garage recommended them along with loads of folk on here.

Get the alignment checked too at the same time.

I just hope the MOT on Monday doesn't pick up anything too major.
Pre MOT bill already climbing.
£240 for the Michelins
£285 for the ebay exhaust + £10 for the multi pack of cobolt drill bits to get the old bolts out.

Should be all worth it for the smiles per mile. Keep hankering after something with a V8 but even if I sold the Z4 and double the money, I can't think of anything to give me the same theatre and smiles every time I drive it!

Not a bad idea but I had a full geo done only a few months ago so hopefully the rears should be okay for now.

Another Michelin fan here. Doubt they last any longer. But a tyre that works really well on the Zed. :driving: :D

latest tests on autobild show that the goodyear will last longer than the michelin and with equal and for some aspects superior perfomance. I have had fitted a couple of assy 5 on the rear, the wet weather grip is outstanding.

Wet grip is indeed excellent.

Don't take our word for it, OP! Watch the latest TyreReview video on YouTube. Also the tyre is very comfortable for the performance it offers.

I found that there was what felt like a bit of sidewall roll in the Goodyears on two fast slip roads I drive every day. One left hand and the other a long right then left.

Both slip roads are about 60mph on the Michelin and 50mph on the Goodyears as it felt as if they were about to let go at any higher speed.

The Michelin don't feel like that at all.

Wear? Probably about the same.

You might be onto something although I need 245 for the rears not 225. Ebay shows about £100 each which when you factor in fitting (plus the hassle of getting them to the fitting place) is about the same as black circles.

I realised today whilst battling to remove the front studs on the exhaust (ready to put on the ebay exhaust) that the inner tread had worn off my front tyres so I've just been pricing all four up.
MICHELIN PS4, £420
Goodyear Asymmetric 5 up front and 3 at the rear, £380.
The mixed opinions, the recent reviews and moreover the cost have meant I've gone for the Goodyears.
Just hope after 4 tyres and an exhaust the Mot goes okay. That's assuming I manage to get those studs out. My cheap cobolt bits only served to make a dimple!

Tried most premium brands, these are both good brands though one I’ve been happiest with has been Michelin both at the start & throughout their lives.

If the tyre industry is anything like mine, the reviewers tend to write very favourably to whoever is sponsoring them

If you are talking about the bolts near the front and oh so close to the o2 sensor you have problems my garage had to grind and burn a hole in those.

I bought some decent cobolts bits today and the 3mm bit went through the stud like it was mild steel. It was so satisfying watching the swarf twirl out. Only pilot holed one so far as busy with other stuff but looks like a simple job now. Thankfully.

Excellent

Personally, I went for Goodyears for their for wet grip performance and more compliant ride. However, you can't go wrong with either.

Edit: just noticed you went for Goodyears. Good call.
