Michelin, Goodyear and extra load tyres

Hi all,

Apologies, I've tried to read up on this in the search but I'm still a bit confused and would really appreciate some advice.

I've decided to replace all 4 Bridgestone runflats with standard tyres. I've narrowed it down to Michelin PS2, Michelin PS3 or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. I understand the PS3s are the newer model but I've read a lot of good things about the PS2s and Goodyear F1s. I'm keen to get current views and recommendations on any of them.

I also wanted to know if I should get the "extra load" version as my dealer has recommended it as being a "better match for my suspension". I've not heard of this before. I was under the impression that Extra Load tyres were for heavier cars such as a 4 x 4?

Thanks very much,

Dan

I had goodyear F1A1 xl.
I didn't get xl this time, on the F1A2s,
I thought I may enjoy a softer sidewall and comfy ride
I have found the turn in on my new goodyear tyres not quite as sharp as the previous set

get the xl tyres.

The PS3 is the newer of the 2 Michelins mentioned, but it's NOT the new version of the PS2, it's the new version of the Exalto.

The Pilot SuperSport is the new PS2 - grips better, lasts longer.

Of the 3 you've mentioned I'd go for the F1A 2.

Extra load will just mean the sidewall will have less flex (for a heavy car), but the Z4 isn't that heavy so if you have the choice go for the non-XL version.

I have non runflat PS2s and they're ace... But they're only available in (very expensive) runflat form now from what I can tell :( ... So the Michelin option is PSS as mmm-five says.

Thanks for the advice. I've been looking around and it seems like the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 is still available as a non-runflat. I'm guessing that would be a better bet than the PS3 if I can't stretch to the Super Sports?

If I did go for Extra Load tyres do you think I'm likely to find the ride quality less comfortable due to the stiffer sidewalls? I understand the Z4 suspension is set up for tyres with stiff sidewalls meaning the handling may not be as sharp without them?

Many Thanks

I've got the XL version of Goodyear Eagle FI Asy2 tyres. Fronts are 18" 225 92Y and rears are 255 94Y.
I am very pleased with them and would recommend.

Didn't see these when I was looking, but then as I'm buggering about swapping tyres from one set of wheels to another (neither of which are on the car) I want them done at my house by a mobile fitter.

Those PS2s are a good price - I got four from Costco in June 2012 for about £560 fully fitted, and that was with 20% off. No complaints about them at all, they're great tyres - and if I was just replacing my rears I'd have bought these.
