Has anyone fitted crossclimate tyres to their Z4? They are apparently a summer tyre with winter tyre rating (?). The reviews look good, and after sliding sideways around a roundabout in the rain yesterday, I have ordered a set for my 2.o Z4 convertible. MY car came with Pzero runflats on the front, and a set of Chinese rubbish. cheapo tyres on the back. The car felt seriously unsafe yesterday, which was the first time in a month I had driven it. It would be nice to use my car year-round!

Not on the Zed as they don't come in my size, but have had them on the Alfa for about 20,000 miles (including a Z4-Forum National in the Lakes and 13 laps of the 'Ring).
Standing water doesn't bother them, nor does sub-freezing (but dry) conditions. They also have the kosher winter/snowflake rating (3PMSF) which means they're suitable for countries/roads that legislate for this.

and I'd happily have them as an all-year tyre on the Z4 - although obviously they will slide a bit more than PSS in the dry.
Closest I can find for the M would be 245/45r18 rears and 225/40r18 (or 235/45r18) front.

You don't need cross climates, your problem is mismatched tyres and the front axle has way more grip than the back. If you put Chinese rubbish on the front too it'd restore the balance but obviously it's better to upgrade the rears. Or all 4.
Summer tyres that also claim to be good in the Winter aren't usually very good in the cold when compared to proper Winter tyres. They are marginally better than Summer but you're better off with Summer and Winter or just Summer in my opinion. 99% of the time Summer tyres are fine, although I know Winter tyres are better below about 7 degrees. However, you only really get stuck when there's snow or ice which is very rare. The majority of the year an all season tyre is more of a compromise than a benefit.

All seasons will do ok in bad cold weather but BMW's are bad in the snow so ideally you need winter tyres for the snow, here's a 5 series in the snow with all seasons as you can see they don't really cut it.

I have had the CrossClimate Michelin tyres on my car for two days now. They are simply brilliant! NO more tram lining on B roads, and the car no longer feels like a go-cart. The grip on corners is superb and the car feels glued to the road. The chap at ATP Euromaster told me that the tyres are very popular and they are also on sale (25% off when you buy 4, or 20% off when you buy 2).

I've been looking at a set of either the Michelin Cross Climate or the Goodyear Vector 4 Season Gen2 for one of my other cars and the Goodyear seem to be edging it some performance areas but not fine weather ultimate grip. Both are clearly streets ahead of previous generation all season offerings, particularly in full-on snow.
I'll probably go with the Goodyear on my other car for the better all round performance and since my baby rarely sess rain let alone winter salted roads they won't be needed on the Zed
