The Tories?

Not quite sure where that comes from - the mainstream British motor industry has an unbroken record of crap cars being produced by workers who'd rather be out on strike most of the time.......
 
I like the comments about it being the gov's fault etc. Ultimately the company was private, not national. A private company that's better (price / quality / unique feature / etc.) than its competitors will generally succeed while those that are worse fail. The fact is Rover produced cars that, quite frankly were worse than the Korean cars we all like to joke about - yet they weren't cheap like Korean cars. Can you imagine a Rover with a 7yr warranty?
 
If you had to produce a list of "the best" cars to come out of that entire BMC/BLMC/Rover/MG thing there would probably only be one, and that was the Rover 75.....call me old-fashioned but it was nicely styled, and the version with the BMW diesel engine was probably a good choice. There were a few one-off variants that might be worthy of credit but they suffered from badge-vanity. There were also some subsidiaries worthy of mention...Jaguar and Triumph spring to mind, but they were mismanaged to within an inch of their lives....

Remember these guys gave us such gems as the Maestro, Ital/Marina, Allegro, Maxi, Land-Crab, Metro, Princess and so on, ad nauseam.....how many tons of ferric oxide did that lot make I wonder....even the Mini.....a great little car but basically a rust bucket on wheels, and designed by a Greek..... :cry:

Being Scottish we blame the Tories for everything. They are a bunch of tossers and always will be. :P
