MFSW Spoke Removal Help Question

Hi folks
Can anyone tell me how to remove the lower/central spoke on a MFSW on an E86.
I have removed the two torx screws at the rear but can't figure out how to split the front and rear sections.
All other spokes have been removed now.

Also as I am not going to get all the various parts cleaned and repainted by this evening I will need to lock the car up.
Am I able re connect the battery with the central air bag holder removed?
Does it need to be refitted to be able to reconnect the battery?

Thanks for any help and advice.

The lower spokes should split apart but will probably break some of the tabs in the process.

I would recommend putting the airbag back before connecting the battery. I wouldn't want an airbag fault light which I believe they are difficult to clear. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Refit the airbag properly before connecting the battery.

I drove mine round for a week without the spoke covers in place, so the airbag still fits without them.

You may find that someone has been there before and might have glued the 2 halves of the spoke together. They can be ta tight fit.

Thanks for the replies.
I managed to get the lower spokes apart but were an extremely tight fit, also caused no damage so that’s a bonus .
I did refit the airbag before reconnecting the battery, makes sense really when I thought about it.
So tomorrow steering wheel spokes are ready to be repainted.
Might even try to get the exhaust tips off for a good clean. :)

What paint are you using for the spokes and are you using a lacquer as well.

Hi SiJar, I'm using Plastikote, primer and then black mat finish paint.
No I'm not using the lacquer, and as you have asked the question. I am wondering wether I should be :-?
