Is this an easy swap on an early Z4 3.0 SE model? Is it all loomed in like the cruise control so you can swap back and forth easily?

Had it added to my 04 by the stealer. They did say it was a little tricky but the wiring was there. Glad I had it done.
 
Easy enough job on any year but you do need to fit a 2 wire harness on some models (like my '03 3.0i) from the LCM to the steering hub. That aside it's a simple job if you respect the requirements of airbag removal.

Ah sounds good.

Just I'm not 100% taken on the steering wheel controls. I think they look a bit afterthoughty, and I like the simple wheel, so if it's an easy change then I'll ignore it as something to worry about when looking at cars!

Dead easy mod, took me about 30 mins max after leaving the battery disconnected for a while to ensure the airbag didn't fire. Well worth doing!

I know what oyu mean re the afterthought. Actually in car they look fine and especially with the paddles too. They do command a good price, so expect to pay £100 to £200 even on Ebay, so if you find a car with them you might want to factor in that you can sell it and easily get a standard wheel for a few ££'s
