It will physically fit as I used one for a bit whilst having my steering wheel trimmed. The e85/86 shares most of its tech with the e46 so they are compatible however the cruise control buttons don't work as the stalks obviously separate to the steering wheel on a z4

well if you knew that they share the same tech then you know the wiring for the airbag (stage 2 for e46's from 2001 >) have the same green / yellow connectors on the back of the airbag in the Z4 so yeah, it'll fire

E46 = 3 series

e39 = 5 Series
e46 = 3 series

They shared many of the same parts hence why I said it would fit a 5 series As Jamie has already said it will bolt on to a Z4 so no issues there.

You can get different trims as well so you could loose the MFSW buttons
