Hey folks,

I am about to replace the lower control arms on my 2003 Z4 (right bushing is leaking, 53,000 mi, and reshaped right front wheel because of a bend [road hazard hit I suppose]). E46 folks are sold on the Meyle CAs with their bushings.

Opinions are welcome, with the understanding they are just opinions!

I had Meyle Heavy Duty control arms + poly bushing put in last month, and let me say they made a significant difference in how the car tracks around corners. I think the added rigidity of the poly busying helped to eliminate alot of the flex. My car has about 73,000 miles, so the old bushings were probably quite worn out.

Also, I've noticed that there are less clunks and thumps when going over sharp bumps and potholes. The new all-metal ball joints really helped in this aspect, and should hopefully prove to be more durable over time.

The control arms + bushings are a little pricey. I paid $355 shipped on sale from this ebay store:

Was it worth it? Sure. Less clunks + tighter handling = happy driver. However, I think just replacing the bushings could have yeilded similar results, but if you have plans to keep your car for a while, it may be better to replace the whole assembly for peace of mind and better durability. Also keep in mind that the factory bushing is a PAIN to separate from the control arm. Replacing both parts at once may be easier in terms of labor.

Hmm interesting. Do you have non run-flats with the poly bushes? Just thinking it may be a little unbearable with both. :o

The polybushes don't contribute to the harshness of the ride as the the front wishbones simply rotate within them and don't forget the other two mounting points are solid metal to metal after all!

:D

Thanks for the response. I haven't seen them for that price, and they aren't listed now.

I will keep a watch.
