Mewant Steering Wheel Covers for M Wheel

Hi all,

I've seen these Mewant covers mentioned for quite some time, with some very good results. For those who don't know, these are fairly low cost Chinese made leather/artificial leather covers that you stitch on to your wheel over the existing wheel, leaving a pretty clean finish.

It was clear that these only fitted standard z4 wheels and not the thicker and slightly differently shaped M wheel. However, I've been in contact with Mewant and have been able to order a custom one which will hopefully fit the M wheel. I thought I'd volunteer myself as a guinea pig as I'm sure others with M wheels would be interested.

Just a placeholder posting this for now but I will update as and when I receive and fit the cover. Fingers crossed this works!

Worth noting that this will make your steering wheel even fatter!! I tried an M wheel and preferred the re-trimmed standard wheel I had.

Standard is definitely too small but a re-trimmed standard wheel was better suited to me (a happy medium between the two).

Plus the M wheels are extremely expensive even for poor condition ones.

Look forward to seeing the recovered wheel tho. What spec did you go for? Leather? Alcantara? :)

Yes this thing is gonna be huge! I've always liked a chunky wheel though so it doesn't bother me.

I went for a very simple spec, real leather in black with perforated sides like alot of the folks who use Royals to retrim their wheels. Also gone for grey stitching in an attempt to match with the cirrus dash and BMW individual spoke covers I have. Essentially aiming for a fairly OEM but classy look!

Hope you are not in a hurry, when I ordered one earlier this year it took over three months to arrive. They look good quality.
I never fitted it,but sold it on here.

Not massively in a hurry. Whenever I order something from China I treat it as something to forget about and be pleasantly surprised when it finally turns up

I'm the same!

No a fan of the chunky but so long as it works for you!

A quick update on this, I've received pictures of my customised wheel cover from Mewant, see attached. Now just to wait for the no doubt extensive delivery time! :|

It looks nice! You said 'leather/artificial leather'. Is it both? Or is there a choice?

Should be all real leather with perforated on the sides for something a bit different. Looks more grey in the photos but should be black!

It's a shame they couldn't be bothered to get the perforation lined up nicely...

Yeah I noticed that, oh well it won't be that noticeable on the car! Probably best with these Chinese company's to just go with simple designs where there's little room for error.

Well, they did on one of the edges. As best as you can get really without making a custom perforation = ££££££.....

So the cover has arrived! (It did about a week ago actually). Have test fitted and whilst pretty tight, I did manage to get it on. Looks to fit the thickness fine but with some questionable areas where I may have to yank it extra hard (namely thumbrests), but I guess I'll know what the outcome is when I go for the full fit. :D

I did one of these on my X3 M-Sport wheel. You’ll be fine if you take your time. The tape is actually the hardest bit!

Really good job, looks very slick!

Do you suggest using the tape, I'm not sure what difference it would make?

I'm only a bit apprehensive fit wise because this is an entirely custom piece that I had to give measurements for. They don't make a simple black cover for the e85/86 m wheel, so I might have shot myself in the foot!

So, the tape definitely helps keep the leather in place while you tighten the stitching and prevents twisting. I think it was particularly helpful around the 3 spoke areas as this can be slightly looser due to their shape so the tape can help keep it snug.

It can be unhelpful too as you do need to manoeuvre it slightly to straighten your work as you progress around the wheel.

I don't know what i'd recommend! .... probably use the tape :D

So I got round to fitting the cover this weekend and all I can say is I'm massively impressed!

I liked the pictures of other people's on the standard wheels but hadn't seen any attempts on the M wheel as Mewant didn't officially do one.

So I can say to others who are interested that this does work for M steering wheels but you have to provide custom measurements to Mewant (120/121mm top centre circumference) to make sure. If in doubt send them a message on AliExpress and they should be able to sort it out.

I was a bit hesitant as it was very tight to get on to the existing wheel, but this means for a good tight fit, and it seems to fit nicely around the full circumference of the wheel.

Here's a few pics. I've fitted in the car but I'll take another picture when there's some light!

Cheers,

Barny

So final picture. Here's it fitted in the car. Few minor creases but you're always going to get that with a cover over the top of the existing leather. Pretty happy with it!
